As a member of the OVPR Research Development team, reporting to the Executive Director for Research Development, provide comprehensive proposal development services to small or large teams of principal investigators (PIs) pursuing external research funding. Special emphasis is placed on U.S. Department of Defense basic research (6.1) and other major STEM sponsors. Proposal development duties include obtaining competitive intelligence on funding programs; facilitating PI team building and ideation; substantive editing of proposal sections; and organizing external reviews of proposals. Work cooperatively with grant/contract specialists, a competitive intelligence officer, graphic design support and other members of the OVPR Research Development team in pursuit of these objectivesRemain current and knowledgeable about UTs research capabilities, facilities and engagement opportunities by regularly interfacing with PIs. Organize and host 2-3 research symposia each year, both in Austin and in Washington, DC, selecting topics and recruiting panels of faculty, industry and funding agency representatives. Supervise and work with the Associate Director Defense Research Relationship Manager in planning and hosting these symposia, with logistical support provided by the OVPR Research Development Engagements team.Connect UT researchers and help them build relationships with key DOD funders across all branches, with goals of staying informed of forthcoming DOD funding priorities. Supply research information to Government Relations teams to support DOD-related research Congressional requests.Produce content for and lead periodic proposal development lectures or workshops that provide strategic guidance to PIs pursuing external funding. Design and deliver content to help PIs build their skills in securing DOD-specific funding including YIP/YFA, DURIP and MURI funding. Map UTs historical successes with sponsors using agency and university sponsored projects data. Leverage these data, combined with input from relevant PIs and colleges, to identify and implement strategies for increasing PIs competitiveness in pursuing external fundingContribute to the overall success of the OVPR Research Development team by performing other duties as assigned
