Position Summary: The University of Dayton School of Law invites applications for a tenure-track position in Constitutional Law to begin August 16, 2026. The position is open to appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor with tenure, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will also be considered for up to a four-year term as the Dean’s Professor of Constitutional Law, with the possibility of renewal. Determination of tenurability and rank will be evaluated based on the faculty member's established record as a thorough and competent classroom teacher, plans for advancing their classroom teaching, the established record of well-researched, wellwritten and thoughtful scholarship and nature of their future scholarly endeavor(s), performance of service obligations in a satisfactory fashion and in undertaking additional service obligations for the University and/or the legal profession. Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must have a J.D. from an Accredited U.S. law school, and For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor: Potential to publish scholarly works, and Interest and potential to teach Constitutional Law. For appointment at the rank of Associate Professor: At least four years of successful teaching experience, including teaching experience in Constitutional Law, and A record of service and scholarship demonstrating that the candidate is on track for promotion to Full Professor with Tenure For appointment at the rank of Full Professor: At least 6 years of teaching experience, including teaching experience in Constitutional Law, demonstrating that the candidate is a thorough and competent classroom teacher who will continue to develop as a teacher, A track record of well-researched, well-written, and thoughtful scholarship in the area of Constitutional Law, and A record of service to the candidate's law school, University, and/or to the legal profession. Preferred Qualifications: While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following: Outstanding academic record; A record of original scholarship demonstrating expertise in the field of Constitutional Law; Demonstrated potential to be an outstanding teacher; Successful experience in one or more of the following: mentoring students from underrepresented groups; working with people from socially and culturally diverse backgrounds; law practice, preferably in the area of Constitutional Law; Effective interpersonal communication skills with various constituencies; Excellent written communication skills Effective oral communication skills; Interest in and/or experience teaching two or more bar-tested areas of the law; An expressed willingness and enthusiasm to teach in and develop UDSL's hybrid online J.D. program; Effective classroom management skills; Commitment to breadth of education, including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition of social justice and a commitment of service to the community, university, and profession.
