Summary The Clinical Nurse Educator focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction and limited critical thinking skills. Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. The Clinical Nurse Educator understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for staff within organization. Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse Educator RN PC PACT assumes the following major functions/duties and responsibilities expected of the role: 1. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager Nursing Education, Nurse Managers (NMs) and Assistant Nurse Managers (ANMs) PC PACT, Associate Nurse Executive Education & Research and Associate Nurse Executive Ambulatory and Specialty Programs or designees in the review and /or revision of existing policies or with the development of new policies that will guide clinical practices in PC PACT clinics in compliance with given standards for Nursing Service staff. 2. Collaborates with PC PACT NMs and ANMs to provide clinical nursing leadership for the clinics. 3. Assists PC PACT NMs, ANMs and NM Nursing Education to develop a strategic education plan for Nursing Service staff. 4. Assists with implementation of an orientation program for new PC PACT Nursing Service staff. 5. Assists with developing and completing initial competencies for the PACT Nursing Service staff. 6. Coordinates orientation, clinical competencies and required educational directives with the PC PACT ANMs and NMs for Nursing Service staff. 7. Ensure staff are following the Donna Wright competency assessment annual training for ongoing competency evaluation and proficiency development of incumbent PC PACT Nursing Service staff in collaboration with NMs who identify high risk /problem prone/ low volume skills within their respective areas. 8. Collaborates with PACT NMs and ANMs to update and maintain unit Service Competency Folders (SCF). 9. Assists with coordinating education programs and activities to help improve competence of Nursing Service staff in providing PC PACT care to its varied PC patient population. Encourage Motivational interviewing and TEACH. 10. Provides education for Nursing Service staff focusing on the PC PACT Standards of Care, including patient safety and promoting positive patient outcomes. 11. Assesses the educational needs in the PC PACT clinics to meet all applicable regulatory and community standards of practice. Disseminates accreditation standards and ensures staff compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements. 12. Assists with ongoing staff education and communication regarding clinical care issues and various certification requirements. Evaluates current standardized PACT training for all Nursing Service staff. 13. Assists with coordinating preceptorship programs for Nursing students, newly hired staff, or individuals with clinical performance problems within Nursing Service. 14. Identifies educational needs of patients, families and caregivers and provides needed information or makes appropriate referrals. 15. Completes electronic progress notes in a problem-oriented format when appropriate. Assists with the implementation of electronic patient care documentation, including the development of electronic templates or forms, the review and/ or revision of existing interdisciplinary or discipline-specific documentation, and training of staff in the transition to computerized inputting of data and electronic care planning and other patient-care related processes. 16. Utilizes and disseminates the most current PC PACT evidence-based practice (EBP) data. 17. Collaborates and participates with PC PACT Nursing Service staff and throughout VASDHS in the selection and process of performance improvement measures. 18. Provides direct and indirect care for patients in the PC PACT when appropriate. 19. Serves on other PC PACT Nursing Service committees. 20. Coordinates with CNS group to provide orientation and may cross-cover for all inpatient and outpatient care units. 21. Maintains mandatory and clinical competencies of the position. 22. Performs other duties as assigned.
