Job Description

Summary: Responsible for performing tasks and responsibilities within the framework of supportive and restorative care under the direction of a registered professional nurse, licensed physician, or other licensed health care provider legally authorized under this title by performing the following duties. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Assists with the day to day operations of the practice by rooming of patients for office visits for all types of visits including but not limited to regular office visits, workers compensation visits, auto injury visits, and research visits. 2. Collects accurate data such as history from patient, review of medications, review of systems, and chief compliant. 3. Administers immunizations and gives injections using proper technique and properly documenting the administration of such medications.* 4. Starts IV's under the direction of physician or mid-level. 5. Responsible for triaging of patient calls and relaying accurate information to the physician and the patient. 6. Responsible for not interpreting patient clinical data or acting independently on such data, and does not triage without the direction of a registered nurse or other select authorized health care provider according to New York State law. 7. Teaches patients and families as directed by the physician and/or mid-level provider. 8. Documents exams dictated by the physician/mid-level in a precise and detailed manner. 9. Performs tasks such as phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, assists with minor surgery, spirometry checks, urine testing, measuring, and recording of accurate vital signs. 10. Processes referrals electronically to other physicians and/or outside agencies at the request of the physician/provider. 11. Assists the practice by accurately documenting procedure codes as well as diagnostic codes to facilitate a smooth process for billing. 12. Assists in the preparation of patients for procedures under the direction of the physician and administer standing orders through the electronic medical record from the disease management/health maintenance system. 13. Projects a positive image for the practice and be a role model for the mission of the practice. 14. Maintains confidentiality at all times following the HIPAA guidelines. 15. Responsible for occasional evening or weekend work. 16. Performs any other duties under the direction of the change nurse, team leader, director of nursing, or physician. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software. Education/Experience: Graduate of a certified Licensed Practical Nurse program; or related experience or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience Certificates and Licenses: New York State Licensed Practical Nurse
