Description We are looking for a skilled Paralegal to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia, on a long-term contract basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the Office of General Counsel, supporting essential legal operations. The position involves a hybrid work schedule, with three days onsite and two days remote, and is expected to last for one year with the possibility of extension. Responsibilities: u2022 Manage Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, overseeing the process from intake to resolution while maintaining accurate case tracking. u2022 Review and analyze incoming documents for FOIA requests, identifying privileged or non-responsive information. u2022 Perform legal analysis to apply FOIA exemptions and redact documents in line with applicable legal standards. u2022 Coordinate communications with external requesters, government agencies, and third parties to ensure smooth processing of FOIA requests. u2022 Draft formal correspondence, such as release letters and response determinations, and conduct legal research on complex FOIA issues. u2022 Assist in preparing detailed quarterly and annual FOIA reports, including case status updates and backlog reduction efforts. u2022 Provide litigation support by summarizing responsive documents and preparing materials for FOIA-related cases. u2022 Offer legal assistance to the Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Agencyu2019s Board of Directors, including drafting resolutions and meeting minutes. u2022 Support compliance with the Agencyu2019s Record Retention Guidelines and Schedule through legal research and documentation. u2022 Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda to address various legal matters as required. Requirements u2022 Proven experience with case management and document processing, including handling FOIA requests. u2022 Strong knowledge of legal analysis, redaction techniques, and FOIA exemptions. u2022 Proficiency in civil litigation, discovery, and trial preparation. u2022 Familiarity with case management software and litigation tools. u2022 Excellent communication skills for coordinating with external and internal stakeholders. u2022 Ability to draft formal legal correspondence and conduct in-depth legal research. u2022 Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. u2022 Experience supporting board meetings and preparing agendas, resolutions, and minutes is preferred.
