Our consulting work is supported by a powerful toolkit of data analytics solutions and software platforms, informed by years of in-depth work.The OpportunityMany of our clients have data about their workers compensation claims, but dont have meaningful ways to interpret the data, or the ability to predict future claims. Millimans Defense Complaint Analytics team is answering that need by building a Python-based machine learning application that will process historic and current client data on claims, fit predictive models, and identify key claims, allowing clients to efficiently allocate their time and resources. This application will soon be migrated from MVP to an Azure resource in the cloud.As a key member of this enterprise-level development team, the Software Development Intern will gain hands-on experience with Python and C# best practices, learn about managing interconnected resources in Azure, and make meaningful contributions to our codebase. Our ideal hire will bring both programming skills and knowledge of data science to support the design and development of high-quality modeling solutions. While the team is comprised of industry experts, there is no "playbook" for this project - were building something from the ground up, and this intern will be a part of it. This is a great opportunity for a constantly curious and driven student to apply the programming and data science techniques theyve learned to real-world business problem-solving.This internship is anticipated to be part-time, approximately 20 hours per week for 12 weeks, between January and May 2026 with the potential to extend into the summer.What We Are Looking ForProfessional Qualifications:Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Statistics, or a similar technical or quantitative fieldCourse of study must include past or current enrollment in at least one data science class, including machine learning (e.g. XGBoost, Bayesian Search, and/or Grid Search) and statistical analysisFamiliar with developing code, debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving bugs in PythonFamiliar with using SQL queries to analyze large data setsPersonal Qualifications:Naturally curious, proactively explores possible solutions and new ideasWilling to invest the time it takes to learn about an existing product in order to make improvements to itCritical thinking skills, able to think through various aspects of a problem and consider all possible solutionsEffective verbal and written communicationTeam player; comfortable using Microsoft Teams and Outlook to collaborate with coworkersDemonstrates strong personal time management and self-organization skillsBrings a positive and energetic attitude to daily problem-solvingExceptional attention to detailPreferred (Not Required):Understanding of relational database conceptsFamiliar with C# .NET programmingFamiliar with Azure cloud resources and servicesKnowledge of Git version control conceptsExperience working with DevOps project boards (Scrum/Agile methodology)LocationThis role will be based in our Brookfield WI office. We expect this intern to work onsite in our office at least one day per week (Tuesday and/or Thursday) during the spring semester of school year 2025-26.
