The Assistant Quality Assurance Manager will facilitate and maintain the food safety and quality programs in coordination with Production, Warehouse, Maintenance, Procurement, and Sanitation departments. This position will work closely with the Quality Manager and various department personnel to ensure the facility is meeting the Joy Baking Group, regulatory, and customer requirements for food safety and quality standards in a food manufacturing environment. This person will supervise Quality Department personnel including Quality Technicians. Although this role is primarily day turn hours, as a continuously operational facility, some collaboration with other departments and personnel may be necessary during off-shifts.Collaborate with the Quality Manager to develop, implement, review, and maintain food safety and quality programs, including pre-requisite programs, and ensure compliance with internal, regulatory, GFSI (SQF), and customer requirementsFulfill role as back-up SQF Practitioner (food safety & quality), back-up HACCP coordinator, and PCQIAssist with internal & 3rd party food safety/quality audits (regulatory, customer, NGMO, RSPO, and/or SQF), including audit preparation and program reviewManage a dynamic, robust PEM Program under QA Manager supervision, while overseeing internal and external finished goods microbiological testing and other lab analyses to ensure product safety and quality complianceManage the Quality Technicians and other quality support personnel by providing guidance and feedback and developing skills and competencies of the team by facilitating training and learning on the jobComplete customers’ requests for documentation / information via customer questionnaire, web portal, etc.Establish and implement food safety and quality training for facility personnel to ensure facility personnel are equipped with the competency to produce a safe, quality finished productAssist with food safety and quality trend analysis, SPC programs, generating and reviewing data reports with facility personnel to reduce process variation and drive root cause analysis of non-conformitiesAssist with all R&D projects, including new item set up process, product specifications maintenance and finished product testingAssist with the facility calibration program requirements, tracking, and recordkeepingVerify and assist with creating finished product labels per specification, customer, and regulatory requirementsCoordinate completion of extended sensory analysis testing and communicate results to senior site managementManage the traceability program for materials and finished goods from receipt to shipping and testing the system through mock recalls in conjunction with the Recall TeamSupport the Procurement Team in the management of the Vendor Qualification ProgramReview and maintain records and documents within Quality department operationsProvide guidance for facility personnel on food safety and quality issues to maintain material and finished product standardsCommunicate food safety and quality-related concerns with the Quality department managementIdentify, develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the department and facility focused on food safety & qualityIdentify and accurately report defective materials, food safety hazards, and potential product contaminantsPerform other duties as directed by supervisorMust be highly motivated, able to follow direction, and perform assigned work duties independently with minimal supervision Must be able to speak, listen, and effectively communicate with team members both verbally and in writing Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple departments and plant leadership Strong organizational skills and ability to analyze and interpret technical information, mathematical concepts, and form conclusions Commitment to gain a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures and supporting their applicationAble to read, understand, and strictly follow written procedures for multiple controlled processes Able to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and work under time constraints to meet deadlines Involves collection, organization, processing, verifying and filing of required paperwork Accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills a must Lift up to 50 lbs and push or pull with up to 50 lbs. of force Stoop, kneel, climb or squat on an occasional basis Use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel on a frequent basis Able to stand, walk, and sit for duration of shift Involves extensive keyboard operation and regular use of office equipment Able to work Full time, approximately 45-50 hours/week, primarily day turn hoursCollege or experience in related fieldKnowledgeable in food manufacturing principles and operations regarding food safety and quality requirementsKnowledge of HACCP, GMP, FSMA, GFSI, Food security, Statistical Process Control and other essential food safety programsAnalytical or microbiological laboratory experience preferred including knowledge of fundamental laboratory techniques Leadership experience in managing or supervising personnel preferredComputer proficiency required with strong background in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint) HACCP and PCQI Certification preferred but not required. (Successful candidates will be required to obtain certification if lacking.)
