The boundaries for Leavenworth County employees incorporate adjacent counties to include: Wyandotte, Johnson, Douglas, Jefferson, and Atchison Counties in Kansas and Platte County, Missouri. Certain departments within the County may have more stringent requirements for residency such as the Sheriffs Department and Emergency Medical Services. Any exception to this residency requirement must be specifically approved by the BOCC. (Revised 04/21/05) SCOPE Serves as an advanced mechanic at the Leavenworth County Shop performing a variety of activities designed to service, repair and maintain county-owned light equipment. The work performed on the light vehicle team is a range of maintenance, repair, and service activities on light duty vehicles. The knowledge and skills are broad with technical capabilities that go beyond those typically expected at an experienced level, leadership capacity to foster continued development in intermediate and advanced technicians, and quality control and quality assurance of work performed and customer service. Daily tasks include proper troubleshooting, diagnostics, and corrective actions in the repair and routine preventive maintenance on light duty trucks, training staff, and assigning work under the guidance of supervision. When necessary, tasks may include technician duties of lawnmowers, chainsaws and other miscellaneous small engines in the field or in the shop and assistant duties to heavy duty vehicle technicians. PERCENTAGE OF TIME ACCOUNTABILITIES 5% 1. Performing intermediate duties with no supervision. 5% 2. Performing experienced duties with no supervision. 40% 3. Performing advanced duties with minimal supervision. 20% 4. Providing instruction and training. 10% 5. Assigning work to mechanic team. 0% 6. Forecasting preventative maintenance schedule. 10% 7. Maintaining an organized, clean, and safe work environment. 5% 8. Preparing work orders. 5% 9. Fabricating parts for repairs. MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE (*Required prior to employment) 1. Skilled to work independently and safely to perform standard tasks of a mechanic possessing a developing skillset typical of an advanced level mechanic.* 2. Skilled in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing, tuning techniques, and equipment/tools (basic hand, pneumatic, power tools, precision measuring, tire machines, cranes, lifts, and rigging) for the proper d iagnostic, service and repair of mechanical, electrical malfunctions.* 3. Skilled in the practices to complete diagnostics and reports for the maintenance and repairs using typical mechanic materials, tools and techniques.* 4. Skilled in routine, advanced, and specialized service and repairs to mechanical, electrical systems, engine performance, and heading cooling systems.* 5. Skilled in the ability to read manuals and schematics, specifications, service and parts literature and other related technical publication. 6. Skilled in tracing open circuits for electrical diagnostics and repairing complex harnesses. 7. Skilled in diagnostic techniques and repairs for heating and cooling, proper disposal and purchase of liquid gas.
