We are looking for an enthusiastic Pathology Assistant to help us reach our goals. Unlock your potential Job Summary and Qualifications The Pathologistsu2019 Assistant is a staff position responsible for assisting pathologists in performance of surgical pathology services. Under the general supervision of the pathologist, works independently when performing professional duties associated with examination and/or preparation of the surgical pathology specimens. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: uf0b7 Responsible for the organization of and efficiency of workflow processes in the frozen section and gross examination areas. uf0b7 Work closely with on-site Pathologists in determining grossing priorities. uf0b7 Take instruction from on-site Pathologists with respect to grossing technique and quality assessment. uf0b7 Confer with and share with other HCA pathologist assistantu2019s relevant information that would facilitate productivity and expand knowledge base. uf0b7 Triage specimen received from surgery; dictate gross findings on selected specimen using appropriate terminology; refer tissue sections for microscopic review by Pathologist or Resident. uf0b7 Select and identify tissue for microscopic study; determine proper fixative solutions in which tissue will be maintained. uf0b7 Perform specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification; maintain and coordinate specimen and records for specialized procedures using appropriate protocols; submit request for special histological procedures and special stains when appropriate. uf0b7 Maintain records of surgical pathology specimen dissections and dictation; assist in the compilation of reports for surgical pathology; label and store gross tissue specimen. uf0b7 Photograph specimen samples as appropriate for use in instruction and documentation. Perform photo microscopy on cases considered for interdepartmental conferences or for teaching purposes; maintain complete and accurate records of all gross and microscopic photographs. uf0b7 Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. uf0b7 Practice and adhere to the u201cCode of Conductu201d philosophy and u201cMission and Value Statementu201d. EDUCATION: uf0b7 Bacheloru2019s degree required; Masters preferred. EXPERIENCE: uf0b7 Minimum three to five yearsu2019 experience in a pathology histology laboratory setting. CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: uf0b7 Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists preferred uf0b7 3-5 years grossing experience in a hospital setting accepted in lieu of ASCP Certification or Masteru2019s degree HCA Healthcare (Corporate) (, based in Nashville, Tennessee, supports a variety of corporate roles from business operations to administrative positions.
