SENIOR PLANT OPERATOR (NON-COMPETITIVE) Print ( Apply ufeff SENIOR PLANT OPERATOR (NON-COMPETITIVE) Salary $60,479.01 - $81,278.73 Annually Location Ohio 45202, OH Job Type Full-time Classified Job Number 25-02310 (NC) Department Water Works Opening Date 11/03/2025 Closing Date 11/17/2025 11:59 PM Eastern + Description + Benefits General Statement of Duties This employee is responsible for the technical performance and personnel management (including initiating disciplinary action, conducting mid-year and annual performance reviews and ratings, and approving leaves) of a shift in a water treatment plant. Employee aids divisions of the department by providing research, project coordination, facilitation, and training to meet the needs of the department and sees that safety guidelines and EPA regulations are followed throughout all phases of plant operation. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) (Illustrative only, Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.) Knowledge of: Principles of water treatment. Basic mechanical principles; basic electrical principles. Basic mathematics, algebra, geometry, chemistry, physics. Basic computer operations. Departmental safety standards; Employee Safety Instruction Manual. Principles of training and supervision. Plant procedures for dealing with emergencies. Management philosophies such as TQM and self-directed work team concepts. Computer software packages related to word processing, databases, etc. Skill to: Operate assigned machinery properly and efficiently. Obtain readings and measurements as assigned; collect and analyze other data as appropriate. Obtain samples properly and at appropriate times; properly process samples for laboratory testing. Perform basic machinery maintenance tasks. Operate computers in performance of job duties. Operate assigned vehicle in performance of job duties. Ability to: Supervise and review the work of lower-level staff. Perform a variety of manual labor tasks. Follow written and verbal instructions; read and understand operations and maintenance manuals. Follow established safety guidelines. Maintain composure in high-stress or emergency situations. Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Maintain positive working relationships with fellow employees and supervisors. Maintain proper records and logs of daily occurrences. Train new employees on processes and equipment. Required Education and Experience Each applicant must have a total of three years of experience in either drinking water distribution or drinking water treatment plant operation, with at least two of those years being in treatment plant operation. All required work experience must have taken place within the five years immediately preceding the application deadline. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a valid Class II or higher Water Supply Professional Operator Certification issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. Working and Physical Conditions Environmental Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to extreme heat and extreme cold; exposure to computer screens; working in confined spaces, closely with others, with machinery, on ladders/scaffolds; work around moving objects/vehicles, on slippery or uneven surfaces; work with electrical energy; exposure to vibrations, noise; exposure to dust, silica, asbestos, etc.; exposure to fumes, smoke, gases; work with toxic chemicals. Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying; pulling, pushing, reaching; crawling, kneeling, bending, climbing; general manual dexterity required; must be able to operate all assigned machinery; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
