Job Summary As Electric Transmission continues grow, the Substation Engineering Standards Team is seeking a Consulting Level Engineer to provide multi-discipline engineering teams with strong technical and project leadership in support of major engineering projects or initiatives.A Consulting Engineer in ET Engineering Standards - Substation Standards would be responsible for:Leading standard development initiatives in support of ET Construction, ET Operations, ET Field Operations, ET Reliability, and ET Projects (Engineering & Project Management)Provide consulting support for the development of engineering standard drawings and design requirementsDevelop and document engineering and design requirements relating to the application of equipment in substations (examples of substation equipment: circuit breakers, instrument transformers, large power transformers, and miscellaneous yard cabinets and components)Execute and/or lead engineering studies in support of developing strong substation design standards (Physical Electrical)Develop training for design engineers and partner groups in Electric Transmission and Electric Distribution, relating to engineering and design principles and standards that relate to the required physical and electrical infrastructure of a substationReview existing materials, components, and design standards for process improvements, cost savings, and help manage organizational changeDevelop and maintain substation purchase specifications for material and components required during the design of substationsEngage in industry forums, and events (CIGRE, IEEE, SEE, NATF, etc.)Engage with industry suppliers and manufacturers (plant/factory visits, substation visits) for assigned materials and componentsProvide direct input into substation project plansPerform other duties as requested or assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience 10+ years of relevant engineering experienceStrong oral and written communication skills, including technical writingKnowledge of business/financial and contractual mattersRecognized expert by other engineers and leadershipProvides expert technical consultation to other engineers and leadershipEqually effective with working independently or in a team environmentAbility to interpret codes, regulations, and practicesFull knowledge of electric T&D engineering theories, standards and principles with focus on electric distribution and substationStrong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project leadAbility to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasksStrong planning, organizational and project management skillsStrong ability to mentor and train engineering staffEducation Requirements Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor in EngineeringRequired discipline(s): Electrical, Mechanical, Civil EngineeringREQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIAFor placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, orPossess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, orPossess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, orHolds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer licenseLicenses, Certifications, or Quals Description Preferred:Professional Engineer (PE)Other:Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position, must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.Working Conditions Cold Up to 25%Energized Wires Up to 25%Heat Up to 25%Loud Noise Up to 25%Office Work Environment 76 -100%Operating Machinery Up to 25%Outdoors Up to 25%Radiation Up to 25%Travel Up to 25%Dust / Grease / Oil Up to 25% Export Control Certain positions at Dominion Energy may involve access to information and technology subject to export controls under U.S. law.
