Job Description

Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer We are seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer with a strong background in Software-Defined Radios (SDR), Radio Frequency Direction Finding (RFDF), and SIGINT techniques to lead the development and optimization of our RF detection and geolocation capabilities. This engineer will be pivotal in advancing our ability to capture, demodulate, and analyze complex RF signals from commercial drones and their controllers. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and optimize RF signal acquisition pipelines using SDR platforms such as HackRF, USRP, or LimeSDR. Develop and refine real-time demodulation, classification, and decoding techniques for diverse drone communication protocols (2.4GHz, 5.8GHz, 900MHz, etc.). Lead direction-finding (DF) and geolocation experiments using algorithms such as MUSIC, AoA, or TDOA to improve accuracy in locating both drones and operators. Apply SIGINT methodologies to detect, analyze, and characterize emerging drone RF signatures and evasive communication schemes. Collaborate with firmware/software teams to integrate advanced RF algorithms into the platform. Conduct RF site surveys, analyze environments, and design countermeasures for noisy or contested RF spaces. Support test deployments in field environments including correctional facilities, critical infrastructure, and large public events. Stay current with trends in drone RF communications, C-UAS technologies, and signal intelligence techniques. Requirements 3+ years of hands-on RF engineering experience with SDR platforms and toolchains (GNU Radio, Python, C++). Demonstrated experience with direction-finding (RFDF) systems, antenna arrays, and geolocation algorithms. Strong understanding of modulation/demodulation schemes (FSK, OFDM, DSSS), spectrum analysis, and RF front-end design. Familiarity with HackRF, RFD900x, Opera Cake, USRP, or similar SDR hardware. Experience troubleshooting low-SNR or bursty RF environments. Licensed ham radio operator (General class or higher preferred). Ability to thrive in a startup setting with high autonomy and problem-solving demands. Nice to Have Practical SIGINT or ELINT experience (civilian, defense, or intelligence community). Deep familiarity with drone communication protocols (DJI OcuSync, Crossfire, ExpressLRS, etc.). Knowledge of FAA Remote ID regulations, counter-UAS policy, or RF compliance frameworks.
