Job Title: Entry Level Distribution Engineer Job Description We are seeking an experienced Distribution Designer to join our team in North Carolina. The successful candidate will support power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects. The role involves engineering calculations and design for replacing deteriorating cable, moving overhead lines underground, reconductoring existing distribution lines, and replacing aging poles. Responsibilities + Perform engineering calculations and designs related to power distribution. + Conduct structural analysis of poles and guying. + Perform cable pulling and calculate electric demand and fault currents. + Coordinate protective devices for power distribution projects. Essential Skills + Two years of electric utility distribution design experience. + Proficiency in distribution design tools such as BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and Microstation. + Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in the electric utility industry. + Working knowledge of primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards. + Ability to use design software packages and general construction knowledge. + Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with Duke Energy's system and performing distribution design. + Experience interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects. + EIT certification or successful completion of the Engineering Fundamentals Exam. + Good written and oral communication skills. Work Environment The position offers a long-term opportunity with one of the largest power utilities in the country, contributing to a program that enhances power distribution reliability across the Southeastern United States. The office provides a positive environment with engaged leadership and a new, modern space. After an initial period of 1-3 months, a hybrid work schedule is available, allowing work from home on Mondays and Fridays. The Raleigh office is conveniently located near downtown, with over 100 employees and several specialized teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
