Under general direction, the Probation Division Chief plans, organizes and directs the staff and program of a division of the Probation Department. Examples of Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of + The methods and techniques used in dealing with adult and juvenile probationers and related court procedures + Laws relating to juvenile and adult probation and criminal justice + Organization and function of the Probation Department + Principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision + Public administration + Principles and techniques of social and correctional case and group work + Community resources + Budget processes + Growth, development and needs of children + Operation and maintenance of institutional facilities Ability to + Supervise, plan and direct the work of others + Effectively relate to others + Recognize, define and resolve organizational problems + Formulate and implement programs for juvenile and adult probationers + Write clear and concise reports Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualification Two years full time experience in the class of Supervising Probation Officer or a higher level class in Sacramento County Probation Department. Or: Graduation from an accredited college and six years experience in probation, parole, correction, case work, or a related field, two years of which must be at a level equivalent to that of a Supervising Probation Officer or a higher level class in Sacramento County Probation Department. Graduate study in a behavioral science may be substituted for up to two years of other than required supervisory experience on the basis of 15 units for each 6 months of service. Note: If the word
