WIC Registered Dietitian

We are recruiting for a WIC Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Under the direction of the WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) II/III, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for conducting income, residence, and category screening; documenting WIC eligibility/certification information; providing participant orientation, conducting nutrition assessments; providing appropriate nutrition individual/group education sessions; developing the individual nutrition education plan (INEP); and prescribing and uploading food benefits.Works closely with the WNA II/III and other members of the WIC site team to:Provide referrals to health care and/or social servicesProvide participant orientation Prescribe and upload food benefits Schedule WIC eligibles’/participants’ appointments Answer telephone calls Conduct income, residence, and category screeningDocument certification Conduct nutrition assessment Provide nutrition education Develop the INEPAssist in planning of nutrition education topics and outlines for classes. Process therapeutic formula requestsEDUCATIONMinimum educational requirement of completion of an internship accredited by Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND); andcertified as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). For the Degreed Nutritionist with the qualifications listed above, within 12 months of employment must be certified as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Failure to complete the above will result in change of classification or termination, depending on Performance Evaluation and/or availability of another position. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:Registered Dietitian Nutritionist status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); possess a CDR CardPossess a valid CA drivers license. PRIOR EXPERIENCE:Minimum 1 year of experience in providing education/counseling/training, in a healthcare or community setting.SKILLSAble to quickly build and maintain rapport with WIC participants and WIC staff of differing backgrounds; team playerKnowledge and understanding of and sensitivity to area minority groups and their socio economic backgrounds and cultures.Customer-service oriented and basic computer skillsAble to regularly make appropriate decisionsAble to provide effective assistance to paraprofessional staffAble to effectively organize work, with limited supervisionFamiliar with adult learning and general training techniquesPositive professional insightFlexibility and dependabilityDemonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgmentModern office practices and procedures including emailAttention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasksAble to handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyThe pay range for this position starts at $33.82 an hour. Our salaries are dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.
