Job Description

Wire Technician OverviewThe Wire Technician plays a key role in assembling and wiring Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) used in renewable energy applications. This position focuses on precision electrical and mechanical assembly, ensuring that all battery modules, racks, and cabinets meet performance, safety, and quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in electrical or battery system assembly. Shift:6am - 4:30pm Monday - Thursday (OT as needed) Key Responsibilities Electrical Assembly Assemble and install battery interconnects, busbars, and grounding systems within BESS enclosures.Route, cut, strip, crimp, and terminate high-voltage DC and low-voltage signal wiring following detailed diagrams.Mount and wire components such as contactors, relays, fuses, disconnects, and sensors.Connect Battery Management System (BMS) wiring, communication lines (CAN, Modbus), and temperature sensors.Apply torque and strain relief per specification to ensure safe, reliable connections.Label and tag conductors, terminals, and connectors according to company and industry standards. Testing & Quality Control Perform continuity, polarity, and insulation resistance tests on completed assemblies.Verify wiring accuracy per drawings and report any issues or nonconformances.Support in-process and final inspections to meet UL 9540, UL 1973, and company standards.Assist in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and maintain accurate test documentation. Safety & Compliance Follow NFPA 70E, OSHA, and company-specific high-voltage safety procedures.Properly use PPE and maintain an organized, ESD-safe, and compliant workspace.Handle batteries and electrical systems safely, with awareness of thermal and chemical hazards. Collaboration & Improvement Work closely with engineers, production leads, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.Provide feedback on wiring layouts and process improvements to enhance efficiency and safety.Participate in continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives.Maintain accurate records and update documentation as needed. Qualifications & Requirements Associates degree, technical diploma, or equivilant experience in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or Industrial MaintenanceMinimum of 2 years of experience in electrical assembly, manufacturing, or battery systems.Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, or IPC/WHMA-A-620 preferred.Experience with lithium-ion battery modules or energy storage systems is a plus. Skills & Competencies Technical Skills Strong knowledge of DC and AC electrical systems and battery wiring fundamentals.Skilled in wire crimping, termination, and harness assembly.Ability to interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).Proficient with hand tools, torque tools, multimeters, and insulation testers.Familiarity with UL, NEC, and NFPA standards related to electrical safety and battery systems. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.Manual dexterity for handling small components and wiring fortable working around high-voltage and high-current equipment under safe, supervised conditions.
