The Neuroscience Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) provides specialized progressive care for adult patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions who require frequent monitoring and skilled nursing interventions, but do not meet criteria for intensive care.This position also comes with great benefits! The IMCU emphasizes patient safety, early mobility, multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based neuroscience nursing within a supportive and professional work environment. This unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to the care we provide to our patients: 40kg weight minimum, age generally not less than 16 years with no upper age limit. Diagnoses include but are not limited to:Intracranial Hemorrhage Acute Ischemic StrokeBrain tumorNeurosurgical patientsInterventional Radiology patientsDepartment Specific Working Conditions: May be required to provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations outside of Neuro ICU including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and Radiology. Department Specific Requirements :Lumbar Drain (LD)External Ventricular Device (EVD) Trans-radial (TR) Band6 CE hours of annual Stroke EducationFor your first year:If your hire date was between January 1 - September 30th, please submit 6 CE hours of annual stroke education by the end of this calendar year.If your hire date is between October 1 - December 31st, please submit your stroke hours during the next calendar year.Current NIHSS, cannot be allowed to expireSelf-reflective, self-directed learner who achieves progressive growthIdentify gaps in knowledge and initiate seeking resources to identify and manage risks, practicing safely with a wide variety of patient populationsAble to advance plan of care when there is a lack of continuity of patient assignmentsExcellent time managementSelf-managementThe nurse owes the same duties to self as to others, including the responsibility to promote health and safety, preserve wholeness of character and integrity, maintain competence, and continue personal and professional growth” (ANA, 2015).1 year RN experience in a hospital settingBSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date. Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hireCurrent, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse LicenseBLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS must not expire during orientation Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodationCCRN, SCRN and CNRN are the typical national certifications for our specialty area.Experience in a high-level acuity medical facility.Length of Orientation - Experienced NurseExternal candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area.
