Your expertise will help fuel conservation efforts, community engagement, and unforgettable guest experiences.About the RoleThe Senior Accountant provides support by preparing financial statements and tax returns, ensuring tax compliance, and performing general ledger accounting services for the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks under the direction of the Director of Finance / Controller.Essential DutiesFinancial Reporting & CompliancePrepare monthly and annual financial statements for all ParksCompile audit workpapers for all entities under the Columbus Zoo Family of ParksPrepare and interpret periodic financial reports for managementTax Preparation & FilingPrepare IRS forms, including 990 and 990-TPrepare and file sales and use tax, bed tax, CAT tax, and other required returnsManage annual 1099 filingsCoordinate multi-state charitable solicitation license renewalsAsset & Grant ManagementManage real estate taxes and exemption documentationAssist with grant applications, audits, and reimbursement submissionsMaintain accurate records and reporting for temporarily restricted assetsReconcile donor pledge balances with the Philanthropy teamInternal Controls & Mission SupportPerform all cash reconciliationsConduct internal reviews of transactions as requested by Management or the BoardSupport the mission and values of the organizationPerform other duties as assignedEducation & CertificationHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance requiredCPA certification preferredExperience & Technical Skills5 years’ experience in an accounting positionProven experience with non-profit accounting and IRS Forms 990/990TAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially ExcelExperience with automated accounting and budgeting systemsProfessional CompetenciesStrong financial and analytical skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to manage multiple projects and meet deadlinesAbility to maintain confidentiality of privileged informationWork Environment & RequirementsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and efficientlyCommitment to guest service and cooperative team relationshipsFlexible schedule availability including evenings, weekends, and holidaysValid driver’s license with a good driving recordCompliance with drug-free workplace policy and annual background checks
