Mortgage Underwriter Full-Time Fowler, IN Meet your talent advisor Mary Jane Evans The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and analyzing mortgage loan applications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, and internal policies. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to assess creditworthiness and collateral risk. Mortgage Underwriter Key Responsibilities: Review mortgage loan files, including applications, credit reports, income/asset documentation, appraisals, and other supporting documents. Analyze borrower financial information to determine creditworthiness and ability to repay. Ensure loans meet regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, and internal lending standards. Assess collateral by reviewing appraisals and real estate evaluations. Prepare clear and accurate underwriting decisions within established timelines. Communicate decisions and request additional information from loan officers or applicants when necessary. Collaborate with loan officers and other staff to resolve issues and facilitate timely loan closings. Maintain thorough documentation of underwriting decisions and rationale. Assist in CECL and HMDA reporting processes as needed. Participate in loan committee discussions as needed. Perform duties under the direction of Management and in alignment with the bank’s policies. Mortgage Underwriter Qualifications: Prior experience in mortgage underwriting, processing, or related lending roles preferred. Knowledge of mortgage regulations, secondary market/investor guidelines, and real estate collateral requirements preferred. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
