Summary The Medical Instrument Technician (EKG/Telemetry) will operate and monitor electrocardiographic equipment for continuous telemetry rhythm evaluation and interpretation. They will remotely monitor continuous cardiac rhythms and oximetry readings for up to 35 patients under the direction of the RN and medical providers. Responsibilities This announcement is open continuous. Certificates will be issued to the hiring manager on a biweekly basis until all positions have been filled. Major Duties Include, but are not limited to the following: Assists nursing with determining alarm settings and customized parameters for each patient Prints and interprets all elements of telemetry rhythm strip and oximetry waveforms and informs nursing staff of any changes in rhythm or oximetry values Documents rhythm interpretation and oximetry readings every 8 hours and with any rhythm change or oxygen deviation from baseline for up to 35 patients Documents communication with nursing staff regarding changes in patient condition and monitor settings Informs the patient about the exam being performed and any hazards associated with the exam to ensure understanding of the procedure Downloads and interprets results of 12 Lead EKG and Holter monitor into appropriate computer system to maintain patient records Recognizes lethal rhythms/arrhythmias (including acute myocardial infarction, STEMI, NSTEMI) and immediately notifies appropriate staff Maintains and troubleshoots cardiac equipment to remain in clean working order Performs 12 Lead EKG in the Lab and provides consultation throughout medical center Performs exercise tolerance test with RN or provider Places ZIO/Holter monitor on patients, documents procedure, and provides patient education Provides training to new employees on Telemetry, EKG, Holter and exercise tolerance equipment Trains and validates competency of medical center staff on EKG and Telemetry procedures Work Schedule: Day/Night, 8 and 12 hour shifts; Rotating weekends and holidays Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): A recruitment incentive may be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
