Description Drives the Yorktown Trolley along a fixed route that continually travels between the Colonial National Historical Park and American Revolution Museum at Yorktown with intermediate stops throughout historic Yorktown. Greets the public and provides information on local attractions. Assists passengers getting in and out of the trolley and operates a wheelchair lift as necessary. Maintains record logs of passengers, mileage, and fuel use. Performs common preventative maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, checking fluid and fuel levels and tire pressures. Cleans interior and exterior of Trolley.The Trolley operates daily from March through the end of October, with select dates offered in November through February.Excellent opportunity for retiree. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent and some experience driving vehicles ranging from 15-passenger vans to 50-passenger trolley buses. Possession of a valid Class "B" commercial driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with air brakes and passenger endorsements required. Must be able to work a minimum six-hour shift. Must be able to work with people of all ages and effectively communicate both orally and in writing. General knowledge of the Yorktown area and business locations, and the ability to provide directions to major points of interest desired. Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively resolve customer complaints and concerns. Prior experience as a school bus driver or public transit operator preferred. Supplemental Information Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, weekends, holidays and occasional evenings in support of special events. DMV records check, background check, and drug testing conducted prior to employment. Physical Demands Must be physically able to sit in and operate a 50-passenger trolley bus. The job involves walking, standing, stooping, and bending while performing the pre-trip inspection, and when cleaning the Trolley. Gripping of the steering wheel is essential while driving the Trolley. Some climbing is required up the steps into the Trolley. There is pushing and pulling of passengers in wheelchairs occasionally, and pushing and pulling while cleaning the equipment, and pushing of buttons on the passenger counter.
