We're seeking highly skilled, self-motivated, and team-oriented professionals who are passionate about delivering exceptional care in advanced veterinary medicineIf you're ready to take the next step in your career and thrive in a collaborative, inclusive setting, we are currently seeking skilled veterinary technicians to join our Surgery pensation:$21-$35/hr, based on experience and skillsSchedules Available:Full Time (4 x 10 hour shifts)Days/Hours- TBDWeekends requiredGeneral Overview:Patient Care Personnel (PCP) play a vital role in supporting the practitioners at Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center (AVES) by assisting with both technical procedures and administrative tasks. Their contributions help enhance the quality of patient care and improve efficiency for our specialists. PCPs are responsible for delivering compassionate, responsible care to all AVES patients, including monitoring, treatment, and detailed record-keeping throughout hospitalization. Strong communication skills are essential, as collaboration with doctors, Client Patient Coordinators (CPCs), Veterinary Assistants (TAs), and fellow Patient Care Personnel (PCP) is critical to ensuring high-quality outcomes. Daily cleaning and stocking of common areas are also required to maintain AVES high standards of care. This position demands a dependable, energetic individual capable of multitasking in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide restraint of pets for examination and treatment by veterinarians. Prepare medications (both injectable and oral medications) for outpatients and plete all necessary paperwork associated with surgical/in-house procedures.Calculate drug dosages.Log out and administer controlled substances.Pulling all packs and equipment needed for minor procedures and setting up in treatment area.Provide supportive therapy to patients in recovery and post-operatively.Administer all medications and treatments written on each patients daily treatment plan per doctors orders.Take dictation from the doctors in order to record the report and post-operative treatments.Cleaning up the recovery area after a procedure has been completed so it is ready for the next case to come in. Help the doctors treat patients, assisting in medical or minor surgical procedures such as irrigating wounds, medicating and bandaging. Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as PCV, TP, Azostix and blood chemistries utilizing Idexx analyzer. Collecting blood and urine samples for laboratory analysis and submitting samples to Antech Lab. Prepare samples for shipment to off site laboratories and prepare all laboratory request forms. Maintain file of lab test results and ensure patient records have test results recorded in them.Accurately recording all diagnostics and treatments in patients chart.Convey information in an accurate and professional way between the doctor and the client when the doctor is unavailable to speak with the client directlyRecognize the limits of your knowledge. If you are not confident that you know the answer to a clients question, do not answer it. Ask another staff member for help.Teach clients to administer oral, eye, and ear medications and to give subcutaneous injections or fluids.Make notes in patient files or the computer record of all relevant phone or in-person conversations with clients. Initial all entries.Schedule surgery, imaging, appointments, or other procedures in accordance to hospital policyMaintain anesthesia machines and monitors.Access digital radiographs utilizing Qlink software.Operate portable and stationery digital radiography units.Assist kennel personnel in keeping patients clean and dry at all timesReceive patients into Recovery following surgical procedures and assume their care following transfer from Patient Care Personnel responsible for patients anesthesia.Accurately record, maintain, and review medical records by recording daily treatment plans (including nights, weekends and holidays), all diagnostics, patient progress notes and recording services or goods on the medical record with attached fees for municate patient status to doctors, other PCPs, and clients.Collect blood and urine samples for laboratory analysis, prepare all laboratory request forms, and submit samples to Antech Lab. Report all service and maintenance issues on all equipment in PACU, kennel and pharmacy including but not limited to: Idexx chemistry machines, oxygen/environmental cage, and heated cages to the Tech Lead.Assist other PCPs when necessary.Prepare for next days treatments by restocking supplies in PACU or any other area of the hospital that is needed.Prepare patients for discharge, being especially careful to ensure that patients being discharged are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state.Maintain cleanliness and order in all areas of the hospital.Perform daily and weekly cleaning duties.Assist with inventory; inform inventory manager as needed about items that need to be ordered.About you:Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT) or experienced Veterinary Assistants with at least 2 years of experience, dedicated to providing outstanding client service and excellent patient care.Prior experience in Emergency and specialty hospital is preferred.Culture builders—team players eager to promote trust, collaboration, and a positive work environment.Adaptability—individuals willing to go the extra mile to ensure the best patient and client experience.Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!Benefits Include:401(k) with matchingHealth, Dental, and Vision insuranceHealth Savings Account (HSA) / Flexible Spending Account (FSA)Life and Disability insurancePaid Time Off (PTO) and HolidaysEmployee Assistance Program and Discounts (including Pet Discount)Professional development Uniform stipendRetirement planWhy AVES?Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (AVES) has been established in the Austin community for 10 years serving the Austin pet community.
