You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.Position DescriptionOur Distinguished Engineer works with Staff and Sr. Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply their knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in their domain.Position ResponsibilitiesAs a Distinguished Engineer, you will:Focus on multiple areas in Underwriting and provide technical leadership to the orgCollaborate with product managers, business operations, and other engineering teams to solve complex problemsDevelop and execute technical software development strategy for a variety of domains, evolve tech stack to utilize modern backend and frontend frameworks, storage, event and messaging solutionsProvide technical leadership in adopting AI in various Underwriting task handling, development and testing activities. Hands-on designing, developing, testing and launching major projects while leading other engineers to contributeAccountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutionsMentor and help coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product communityInfluence and educate leadership at all levelsConsistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teamsAnalyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plansDetermine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, demonstrate adaptability and sponsor continuous learningQualificationsFluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, Kotlin, Golang or C# including object-oriented design.Experience designing new and improving existing systems with architecture excellence, design patterns, reliability, and scalability in mindExperience building micro-services oriented architecture with gRPC interfaces, and event driven systems with Kafka.Proficient in programming languages like Java, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, containers such as Kubernetes, and a variety of cloud tools and servicesExperience with continuous building, delivery and infrastructure as codeFluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and operational portalson major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure and GCP.Experience in leveragingscripting languages for task automation.Experience with application monitoring tools and performance tuning.Experience in security protocols and products: understanding of directory service, SAML, OAuthIn-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithmsExperience with solving analytical problems with quantitative approachesAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environmentExemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmapExperience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to productionPreferred QualificationsExperience in the Insurance or Underwriting domains.Proven ability to integrate AI/ML technologies into applications to enhance efficiency and scalability.Experience12+ years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers and Java), or similar modern languages such as Kotlin, Golang, or C#.10+ years of experience with architecture and design6+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service6+ years of experience in open-source frameworksExperience with risk engineering, compliance, operations, or InsurTech is a plus.EducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experienceIVRPOLYXAnnual Salary$150,000.00 - $300,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
