Job Description

About GKN Automotive We power the world’s vehicles with advanced driveline technologies—conventional, all-wheel, and electrified. Our global teams design, build, and integrate systems used by most of the world’s automakers. Innovation, collaboration, and execution are at the heart of how we shape the future of mobility. Day in the Life Picture your morning starting with a quick scan of process capability metrics, then heading to the line to verify a recent machining change. By mid-day, you’re updating a PFMEA and control plan with cross-functional partners, validating an inspection method, and confirming that containment for a nonconforming part is airtight. Your afternoon might include a layered audit to verify IATF 16949 controls, followed by a concise report-out on quality trends and a coaching session to embed lessons learned into daily work. Tomorrow, you’ll partner with another plant—travel is limited, but impactful. Role Purpose As a Manufacturing Quality Engineer, you will protect product integrity and process consistency from concept through shipment. You will implement and sustain the Quality Management System, ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949, and drive first-time-right outcomes through rigorous prevention, verification, and continuous improvement. What You’ll Do Maintain and improve QMS documentation, including PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flows. Design, validate, and standardize inspection and test methods to confirm conformance. Lead containment and corrective actions for nonconforming parts; prevent recurrence with lessons learned. Conduct process and product audits; assess capability and stability using data-driven approaches. Support creation and rollout of new quality policies and best practices across operations. Develop performance metrics and prepare clear, data-rich reports for stakeholders. Provide training and coaching to elevate quality competencies across the business. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to respond to urgent plant needs is expected approximately 1-2 times per month and may not always require on-site presence. Required Qualifications 2+ years in a quality role within automotive or manufacturing. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949. Intermediate experience with machining or assembly processes. Proven ability to conduct audits and ensure standards compliance. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field. Background in driveline or automotive manufacturing. Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow documentation. Strong analytical capability and proactive problem-solving approach. Soft Skills Results-driven with sound decision-making. Compliance-minded and disciplined. Fluent in translating data into actions and decisions. Comfortable with systems-based quality management. Technical Skills Intermediate application of IATF 16949 tools and requirements. Hands-on familiarity with machining and/or assembly operations. Audit proficiency and compliance management. Strong grasp of manufacturing quality systems and documentation control. Travel Up to 20% travel to support plants and quality initiatives. Our Values Succeed by being ingenious, collaborative, principled, and driven—delivering measurable results through innovation and integrity. Proficiency You should be proficient in: Quality Control Experience.
