Job Description/Duties: Reporting to the Executive Director of CampusPlanning, the Senior Planner will support Boston University's (BU)overall mission of education and research. As a key team member withinPlanning, Design and Construction (PDC), this position will serve thefull range of Boston University's real estate portfolio which includesnearly 15 million square feet and over 140 acres of land. The Planningteam leads physical planning, programming, and placemaking in support ofBoston University's (BU) overall mission of education and research.Space is an essential university asset, and the department acts asstewards of the university's resources. The Senior Planner will bring aholistic approach to planning, grounded in BUs strategic vision andvalues, and balanced with technical and regulatory requirements. Thisposition will work closely with academic and auxiliary partners forshort- and long-term planning to enable emerging research directions,changes in educational delivery, and enhancements to student life andlearning. The Senior Planner will be integral to the public approvalsprocess in collaboration with many university stakeholders, includingGovernment and Community Affairs and the Office of General Counsel. Thisposition will also work in conjunction with the Facilities Maintenanceand Operations leadership and Sustainability leadership to strategicallyaddress asset renewal for BUs urban campus environment. A significantfocus for this role will be space programming and planning and rely onstrong verbal, written and graphic communication skills. The SeniorPlanner will identify strategic opportunities to bring togetherprogrammatic goals with aesthetic and infrastructure renewal of campusbuildings. Required Skills: ? Master's Degree with 8+ years ofexperience or equivalent. ? Background from design and/or developmentindustry including the fields of landscape architecture, urban planning,civil engineering, with a focus on higher education or institutionalportfolio management. ? Proven ability to negotiate and balanceexpectations and priorities of demanding constituencies while keepingthe University's priorities in view. ? Ability to obtain appropriateresults with limited direction, shows initiative, and ability to managemultiple relationships working effectively in a team environment. ?Robust knowledge of the City of Boston zoning, planning, and designregulations as they relate to planning and pre-design studies. Priorexperience preparing documents for review by the Public ImprovementsCommission, Parks Department, or other entities is a plus.
