This is a high-impact role for an experienced investment professional who thrives at the intersection of financial analysis and sustainability.The Manager will lead investment diligence and portfolio analysis related to sustainability across asset classes, including public and private marketsu2014while managing climate-related data and helping shape NYSIFu2019s growing sustainable investment portfolio. This position is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, deep familiarity with sustainability data and frameworks, management experience, and a passion for aligning investment outcomes with environmental and social goals.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Sourcing and Due Diligenceu2022 Lead sourcing and diligence of sustainable investment opportunities across asset classesu2014including public equities, fixed income, private equity, credit, real assets, and structured productsu2014with a focus on Sustainability-integrated, climate-aligned, and impact-oriented strategies.u2022 Leverage existing relationships and proactively expand NYSIFu2019s network of sustainability-focused fund managers and platforms.u2022 Conduct rigorous due diligence of investment opportunities, including both financial and Sustainability considerations and assess alignment with NYSIFu2019s sustainability objectives and risk-return profile.u2022 Responsible for leading due diligence on Sustainability oriented private funds, including, for example u2013 decarbonization, renewable energy, and affordable housing funds. u2022 Prepare comprehensive investment memos and presentations and support review and approval processes through internal investment committees.Portfolio Oversight and Benchmarkingu2022 Support the construction and ongoing monitoring of NYSIFu2019s sustainable investment portfolio, including performance attribution, risk assessment, and ESG/impact tracking.u2022 Evaluate and benchmark ESG and climate performance at both the individual investment and total portfolio levels.u2022 Track implementation of sustainability-related goals, including net zero alignment, climate risk mitigation, and social impact contributions.Data Management and Reportingu2022 Manage ESG and climate-related data collection, analysis, and reporting across all asset classes.u2022 Analyze metrics such as carbon emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3), net zero targets, science-based commitments, physical and transition risk exposure, and alignment with industry standards (e.g., TCFD, SBTi, CDP, PCAF).u2022 Utilize ESG and climate platforms (e.g., MSCI, Aladdin Climate, Sustainalytics, Bloomberg, ISS) to monitor portfolio exposure and performance.u2022 Co-author reports, including climate disclosures, investment case studies, and thematic analyses.Stakeholder Engagement and Policy Supportu2022 Collaborate with internal teams (investment staff, legal, risk, operations) and external stakeholders (consultants, fund managers, regulators) to implement NYSIFu2019s ESG priorities.u2022 Support development of ESG-related investment frameworks, policies, and evaluation tools.u2022 Prepare materials and briefings for senior leadership, the Board, and external partners. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in finance, economics, sustainability, or a related field.u2022 Minimum of seven years of experience in investment management, sustainable investing, or ESG research, with a demonstrated track record of fund sourcing, evaluation, and portfolio oversight.u2022 Experience evaluating financial and sustainability aspects of private markets funds.u2022 Strong analytical and modeling capabilities with experience integrating ESG and financial data.u2022 Proficiency with some ESG data platforms and tools (e.g., MSCI, Bloomberg, Aladdin, ISS, Sustainalytics).u2022 Familiarity with leading sustainability frameworks and disclosure standards (e.g., TCFD, PRI, CDP, GHG Protocol, SFDR, SBTi).Preferred Qualifications:u2022 MBA, CFA, CAIA, or progress toward a similar credential.u2022 Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing investment memos and ESG reporting.u2022 Deep understanding of sustainable finance market trends and ESG regulatory developments.u2022 Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.Please be advised that the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) does not offer sponsorship for employment visas to employees or potential employees.
