They will process membership paperwork, actively recruit and retain members, coordinate facility reservations and supervise part-time customer service staff.This position works on-site at the Jax State Recreation and Fitness Center client location. Located in the Appalachian foothills almost midway between Birmingham and Atlanta, JSU has grown from very humble beginnings as a state teachers college in 1883 into the Alabama regional university with the highest percentage of accredited programs.Essential FunctionsProvide leadership and management of the merchandise store and member servicesProcess and audit member services and program registration paperwork and billing; Reconcile monthly automatic paymentsDevelop and execute a new member recruitment marketing plan and member retention programResponsible for the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to areas of responsibilityPrepares and delivers required and requested reports and data to the client and CENTERS central officeAssist with development and enforcement of policies and proceduresOversee and manage member rewards program and/or participation trackingSource, purchase, and inventory pro shop items for resaleServe on various committees representing department for both the client and CENTERSStaff SupervisionHire, train, schedule and evaluate part-time staff direct reports and assist with indirect reportsResponsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports in preparation for payrollSite SpecificHandle incoming reservation requests, provide information about availability, rates and amenities and assist clients with making reservations; Accuratelybook reservation and provide confirmationProvide oversight for annual member survey distributionRepresent department at campus orientations, information fairs, and other campus eventsAssist with student employment recruitmentinformation and orientation sessionsSupport office operations by managing office supplies, equipment, and assisting with administrative functionsEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree required or 4 or more years of work experienceAt least 2 years of progressive experienceDemonstrated experience within member management softwareDemonstrated experience with customer serviceSkills and AbilitiesLeadership and supervisory abilitiesAbility to work as part of, and lead, a team that collaborates effectively with colleaguesEntrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasmAnalytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisionsAbility to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyle choicesCurrent American Red Cross CPR/AED/FA certification (or willing to obtain)Work EnvironmentPhysical presence on-site at client locationOffice environment/event environmentModerate to loud noiseWork within a non-smoking environmentMust be able to work a variety of hours in order to accommodate eventsEvening/Weekend work responsibility as requiredPhysical DemandsSitting at desk or table for at least 50% of the work dayWorking in an events environment must be able to traverse throughout buildings and campusRegularly ascending/descending building levels and occasionally ladders or stoolsMust be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 50 lbs.Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with event patrons, staff, stakeholders, etc.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
