The role - what you'll do Barr is seeking a senior level water and wastewater engineer. This person will undertake challenging and progressive work focused on water and wastewater supply and distribution systems, collection and reuse, and treatment facilities for industrial and municipal clients. This candidate will also have a role in day-to-day client service and business development. Project responsibilities may include working as an individual or leading project teams to assist our clients with evaluation, planning, and implementation of water, wastewater, and reuse system operations to address current and future goals. The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their project management expertise and technical ability for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients. Additionally, the selected candidate will be leading client and regulatory negotiations and mentoring junior staff. Your impact - key responsibilities Multidisciplinary collaboration: contribute to cross-functional project teams delivering engineering solutions for municipal and industrial clients, including those in the mining, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Design and analysis: perform technical analyses, select equipment, and develop detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for treatment systems and infrastructure. Project management and execution: manage or support projects from planning through construction, including cost estimating, bid preparation, and construction administration. Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships as well as leading and working with multidisciplinary teams. Technical reporting and compliance: prepare technical reports and help ensure all designs meet environmental standards and regulatory compliance. Experience with preparation of and managing preparation of engineering plans and specifications, equipment selection, and cost estimating. Client engagement and business development: coordinate with clients to deliver customized solutions, while contributing to mentoring, practice development, and business growth initiatives. Field support: participate in site visits and short-term travel assignments to support project delivery and client engagement. About the opportunity Compensation: anticipated range of $105,000-$132,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as Exempt, (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Work Location: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of our Minneapolis, Minnesota office, with the expectation to visit the Barr office location at least one day per month. Travel expectation: up to 25 percent. Work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments in the field, for client visits, or at another Barr office. Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements: exposure to work in a laboratory setting, including bench-scale testing and wastewater analysis. Exposure to treatment plant operations. About you - required core competencies Education: bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering from an accredited university. Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience, preferrable working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above. Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Willingness and ability to travel. Software: Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software. Driver's license: Possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future. Helpful additional experience (not required) More than 15 years of experience working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering firm.
