Minimum Qualifications Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Preferred Qualifications Position Summary Seeking a laboratory technician to join Biological Materials, Analytical and Biosynthesis Team through the New Materials Institute. Position will provide an array of technical support, and depending on assignment, will collaborate with members of the team involved with microbial strain development, microbial fermentation and/or analytical services (eg, respirometry, sample disintegration analysis, polymer analytical methods). Depending on expertise and assignments, tech will work closely w/ team to provide technical support (running lab protocols, data collection, sample analysis, equip. calibration, etc) in areas of microbial isolation, microbial genetics, fermentation, degradation and disintegration of polymers and basic analytical chemistry tasks. Through team research contributions, this position will help est. the team’s success in addressing technical challenges with global impact. This position will involve extensive hands on laboratory work and coordination and ordering of lab supplies. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies An interest in microbiology and applied chemistry. Physical Demands Lift and carry up to lbs both assisted and unassisted. Periodically drive to pick up analytical or microbial samples and supplies. Sit for long periods of time and perform repetitive hand movement (ex. pipetting, sample mixing, loading of reactors, writing, computer, typing). Is driving a responsibility of this position?
