FTE: 0.001000 Standard Hours: 0.01 Shift: Shift 4 Shift Details:0700 - 1930 and 1900 - 0730 depending on unit needs Holidays: OccasionalWeekends: 1 per 6-week schedule Job Summary: Under the supervision anddirection of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern II assists with theassessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of nursing care for anidentified group of patients. Works under the Nurse Manager's licenseof the assigned unit, and is paired with RNs during their assignedshift. The Nurse Extern II is a nursing student, a graduate awaitinghis/her temporary permit from the state of Wisconsin or awaiting toretake the NCLEX exam. Other duties assigned. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:Required minimum experience of either: A) two acute caremedical-surgical clinical rotations B) one medical-surgical clinicalrotation and one clinical rotation pertinent to the clinical areaapplying for In addition, at least one of the clinical rotations musthave included medication administration. Nursing clinicals must haveprovided theory, knowledge and experience in providing patient care,performing patient care procedures and techniques, as well as knowledgeand experience in performing physical assessments, gathering of historydata, development of nursing care plans and medical recorddocumentation. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Education requirements areeither: 1) currently enrolled in last year of an accredited School ofNursing; 2) a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and waitinghis/her temporary license and expected to take initial exam within 60days of graduation; 3) awaiting to retake the NCLEX exam. If unable topass NCLEX may retain position for up to 6 months post-graduation.PECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Ability to read, write, understand, performsimple arithmetic, and follow directions related to basic patient terpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, visitors, andphysicians in a courteous manor. Ability to complete simple comparisonsbetween numbers. Ability to show experience in essential functions.Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail when performing basicpatient care tasks. Ability to walk and stand and to lift and positionpatients. LICENSURE DESCRIPTION: State of Wisconsin Nursing AssistantCertification (CNA) is preferred except for in CHD where it is CHD, in lieu of CNA certification, must provide documentation from anaccredited school for professional nurses indicating successfulcompletion of the basic nursing course which encompass all of thecriteria noted by the State of Wisconsin administrative code.
