JOB REQUIREMENTS: 3West Cardiac Progressive Care 3WEST is a 50 bedCardiac Progressive Care Unit that sees a multitude of complex patients,including Medicine Progressive Care and other MedSurg patients. Many ofour patients require advanced monitoring, or an elevated level of care.RN's obtain specialized skills to care for this population includingbeing ACLS trained within 1 year of RN hire. Specialties often cared foron 3WEST include, cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology, advancedheart failure, lung/heart transplant, trans-venous pacing, mechanicalcirculatory support, and DKA management, as well as patients withincreased oxygen needs. 3WEST is a great place to learn while achievingan elevated scope of practice outside of the ICU setting. FTE: 0.900000 Shift: Shift 3Job Summary: The Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse with unit leadresponsibilities for patient flow and adjustment of unit staffing tomeet the dynamic needs of the patients. The Charge Nurse will use thenursing process to make ongoing evaluations of patients' acuity,assessments of the staff nurses workload, and anticipate fluctuations inadmissions, discharges and transfers. The facilitation of patient flowincludes triaging and prioritizing admissions and overseeing the carecoordination of patients being discharged/transferred. Daily nursestaffing includes employing effective decision-making behaviors that areused to safely balance changes in patient acuity and census with theavailability, experience and competency of the staff nurses, to ensuresafe and adequate staffing for all shifts. The Charge Nurse willdemonstrate resourcefulness, tactful communication, flexibility,adaptability, decisiveness and awareness of the global needs of thehospital. The Charge Nurse will be a cli nical leader and resource onthe unit, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to facilitatepatient care stay progression and unit goals. The Charge Nurse willassume a patient assignment as determined by the needs of the unit. Asappropriate and/or delegated by the Nurse Manager, the Charge Nursemonitors and intervenes in addressing opportunities for assuringregulatory compliance, quality effectiveness and a satisfactory patientexperience. When working as a clinical Staff RN the Charge Nurse is apractitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing,and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in aninpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency indelivery of care to a primarily adult population. The Staff RN-Inpatientjob description has incorporated essential functions which are adaptedfrom the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition(2010). EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: Clinical competence and experience inthe care and management of target patient populations specific to areaof employment is required. A minimum of 2 years of related clinicalexperience is required, unless approved by the Unit Manager. If applyingto Critical Care position, must have 2 years of Critical Careexperience, unless approved by the Unit Manager. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:Bachelors Degree in Nursing is required. Will consider current FroedtertHealth non BSN prepared RNs with demonstrated leadership skills thathave at least 2 years experience in an acute care setting and formalcommitment and plan to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Nursing within 5years of starting in role.
