Dental Assistant - Graduate Endodontics

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 1. Provide dental assistance and instruction tostudents during the examination, diagnostic testing, and treatment ofpatients and assistance to students and faculty during surgery anddental emergencies including: monitoring patient comfort; taking,developing, and providing instruction about x-rays; and assuring thatclinic procedures are followed. 2. Assist dental students and faculty inthe processing of paperwork related to the examination and treatment ofpatients including: creating and filing endodontic packets; andassigning new patients to students. 3. Maintain and monitor cleanlinessand sterilization of dental equipment and instruments per OSHArequirements. 4. Order and stock supplies using MU Dental Storeprocedures and maintain all related paperwork. Assist with budgetmonitoring and planning. 5. Facilitate the patient billing processincluding: preparing and submitting patient insurance forms, collectingpayment, and recording patient treatment. 6. Answer phones, scheduleappointments, handle patient files and provide information andassistance to patients, hospitals, insurance companies and doctor'soffices. 7. Maintain patient recall system including: schedulingappointments; sending postcards and keeping records. 8. Check-out andmonitor the return of supplies, equipment, and medication issued tostudents and faculty. 9. Coordinate the repair and maintenance of dentalequipment. 10. Assist with the Sophomore Lab courses including:setting-up supplies and equipment; recording grades; and coordinatingthe lab schedule. 11. Communicate with suppliers and become familiarwith new products and equipment. 12. Provide orientation to dentalstudents new to the endodontic department. 13. Attend in-serviceprograms and various meetings as required. OTHER EXPERIENCEAND QUALIFICATIONS: High School education plus one year dental assistantexperience required including knowledge of dental terminology andanatomy; regulator agency requirements; 4-handed dentistry;instrumentation; impression materials and cements; x-ray technology andprocedures; sterilization procedures; patient management techniques; andHealth-Care Provider CPR . Also requires dexterity, ability to toleratelong periods of bending, standing and walking, strong verbal and writtencommunication skills as well as basic computer skills, excellentcustomer service and listening skills, discretion, flexibility, abilityto work and communicate with people from a diverse population; and theability to work independently with little supervision and frequentinterruptions in a fast-paced environment.
