The Division of Critical Care Medicinein the Department of Pediatrics, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner orPhysician Assistant to support the critical care program located inMilwaukee, Wisconsin at Children's Wisconsin. The Advanced PracticeProvider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care teamwho will contribute to excellence in program administration, patientcare, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. TheIdeal Candidate wants to be part of a thriving and very collaborativeacademic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas ofresponsibility will include, but not be limited to providing directpatient care in both a hospital and clinic setting. Two years of nursingor physician assistant experience in direct patient care for children,with proven ability to communicate well with children, parents, andphysicians under frequently stressful circumstances. Preferred: previousexperience in critical care nursing or comparable clinical practice;previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant withsubspecialty concentration in acute/chronic or critical care; previousexperience with technology-dependent children. Department SpecificResponsibilities Patient Care: Examine, treat, and document acute andchronic care of children with complex and critical health conditions inthe Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Order, interpret, and record resultsof clinical tests and report results to physician team. Prescribemedications and make recommendations for other therapeutic treatments.Teaching/Education: Instruction (formal and/or informal) of nurses andnursing students, medical students, residents, parents and other healthcare professionals. Quality improvement: Participate in qualityimprovement initiatives. Research: Participate in section researchactivities. Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities Performcomprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal andabnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocialstatus.
