Sr. Cost Accountant

Description Senior Cost Accountant A client of ours is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant for a contract role. The Senior Cost Accountant will play a strategic and hands-on role in analyzing manufacturing costs, maintaining standard costing models, and supporting operational and financial leadership with accurate cost insights and reporting. This position requires strong cost accounting expertise, advanced analytical capability, and the ability to collaborate effectively across operations, supply chain, and finance. This individual will work closely with production teams to ensure accurate cost data, evaluate variances, and drive opportunities for cost improvements and operational efficiencies. Responsibilities of Senior Cost Accountant + Serve as a key link between Finance and Operations to ensure consistent costing methodologies and accurate cost reporting. + Maintain, update, and validate standard cost models to reflect current materials usage, labor inputs, and overhead allocation. + Conduct variance analysis for material, labor, and overhead costs; provide insights and recommendations for corrective actions. + Support monthly and quarterly financial close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold. + Analyze manufacturing data to identify cost drivers, trends, and performance opportunities. + Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, models, and reporting dashboards to support leadership decision-making. + Partner with production, inventory, supply chain, and procurement teams to validate costing inputs and resolve discrepancies. + Assist with pricing evaluations, margin analysis, capital project cost reviews, and forecasting efforts. + Drive continuous improvements in cost accounting processes, reporting tools, and ERP utilization. Requirements Skills/Qualifications of Senior Cost Accountant + Bacheloru2019s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. + 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or production environment (senior-level responsibility preferred). + Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis. + Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, modeling, complex formulas). + Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Infor, or similar + Analytical thinker with strong financial and operational insight. + Ability to communicate financial outcomes clearly to non-financial business partners + Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive in identifying issues and recommending solutions. + Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams. + Experience supporting process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, or system enhancements is a plus.
