PRN Evening shift position Short Pump Emergency Center Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Lead Medical Lab Scientist assists physicians and other specialists by performing all aspects of testing on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids, the results of which can then be used to diagnose and treat patients. In addition, the Lead Medical Lab Scientist participates and assumes responsibility for the daily operations of their section and laboratory. Essential Job Functions u2022 Reports quality patient results in a timely manner from section of responsibility. u2022 Responsible for achieving desired fiscal performance. u2022 Stays current in laboratory theory and techniques. u2022 Maintains regulatory compliance of their lab section. u2022 Responsible for quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance, staff competency. u2022 Prepares section schedules. u2022 Provides recommendations for process improvement. u2022 Oversees training and orientation of personnel. u2022 Performs routine, moderate, and highly complex laboratory diagnostic tests. u2022 Confirms test results and provides the physician with data necessary to determine the presence, extent, cause, and treatment of disease. u2022 Follows quality control programs, assuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. u2022 Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment. u2022 Assists with training of new employees and students in the use of lab equipment and testing procedures. u2022 Performs computer function on both Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS). u2022 Participates in continuing education in respective areas of expertise. u2022 Performs, records, and evaluates Quality Control u2022 Assists with inventory control and maintaining supply levels for the department. u2022 Maintains compliance of their section with all appropriate agencies (CAP, TJC, OSHA, CLIA.) u2022 Completes schedules for department and updates time/schedule as necessary for daily operations. u2022 Responsible for achieving desired fiscal performance. u2022 Submits and reviews The College of American Pathologists (CAP) proficiency testing. u2022 Assumes manager's duties and responsibilities in their absence. Licensing/Certification For BSMH, MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required) For RSFH (as of 3/27/25) if registry-eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date. Education Bachelors, Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry through a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved program (required) Work Experience 2 years of clinical lab experience (required) 5 years of clinical lab experience (preferred) As a Bon Secours Mercy Health associate, you're part of a Mission that matters.
