The Clinical Nursing Student Summer provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. The Clinical Nursing Student Summer program is a temporary time-limited summer program designed to provide clinical experience and exposure. The Clinical Nursing Student Summer role is primarily a job shadowing role that may incorporate aspects of clinical care at the delegation of the RN. Essential Job Functions u2022Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process. Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery u2022Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking u2022Shadows the RN to learn the role in the context of the care team and delivery of patient care and understanding of the nursing process u2022Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties in accordance with pertinent school of nursing, facility, and state board of nursing. u2022Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse u2022Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees u2022Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care u2022Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving u2022Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated u2022Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team u2022Ability to understand and follow directions of healthcare team u2022Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (i.e. falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care) u2022Infection prevention and transmission-based precautions u2022Team dynamics u2022Patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition) Basic hygiene and activities of daily living care u2022Assists with feeding, hydration, and nutrition u2022Assists with bowel and bladder elimination u2022Ambulation and patient mobility u2022Use of clinical technology u2022Compassionate, relationship-based approach in care activities u2022Accountability for completion of assigned tasks u2022Escalation of concerns via chain of command u2022Professionalism Education HS/GED (required) Currently enrolled in a (RN) nursing program and has successfully completed program specific educational requirements with a planed graduation date within 12 months of summer program start.
