Summary This Licensed Practical Nurse - Lab position is located within the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) at the Shakopee VA Clinic. The LPN provides care and counseling of persons and promotes maintenance of healthy living in the prevention of illness, injury, and chronic disease by using the nursing process including systematic data collecting, patient monitoring, nursing judgement, and evaluation of human response to actual or potential health problems. Responsibilities VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include: Maintains clinic flow by completing clinic intake including obtaining, recording, reporting vital signs and measurements Collaborates effectively with all disciplines and levels of care regarding patient care needs. Assists with delegated minor procedures and treatments including obtaining and maintaining necessary equipment and supplies, positioning patient, and ensuring comfort and privacy. Provides patient and family health education or instruction, to include self-management, prevention and wellness. Collects blood, urine, or other specimens in a courteous manner from clinic outpatients for a wide variety of requested laboratory and technical equipment tests, including timed specimens, fasting specimens, and peak and trough drug levels. Adheres to safety, infection control, and universal precautions always while collecting and processing blood, urine, or other specimens. Instructs patients in procedures to be followed prior, during, and after tests providing a schedule to patients when required. Evaluates requested tests/procedures to determine the suitability of specimens for analysis, requesting or recollecting new specimens if a specimen is determined to be unsatisfactory. Receives and/or accessions requests for laboratory and technical equipment testing, verifying the accuracy and completeness of these requests. Controls laboratory and technical equipment supply inventory. Recognizes emergency situations and takes the necessary action. Performs other duties as assigned. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
