The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Manager is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who ensures the delivery of safe anesthetic patient care in the Operating Room and throughout the hospital. The CRNA Manager administers, manages and coordinates staff activities, provides unit leadership and works in partnership with medical staff, nursing, the health care team, and hospital/system leaders to develop a quality practice setting that supports professional nurse anesthesia practice and quality patient care. The CRNA Manager is responsible for carrying out a series of leadership and management activities aimed at customizing education and staff roles, improving unit operations, enhancing communication and feedback, and accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical u00b7 Maintain all duties and responsibilities of a staff CRNA. Provides quality, compassionate care to patients. Acts as a member of anesthesia care team by assessing, developing, implementing and monitoring a complete anesthetic plan of care with physicians, patients, and families. Communicates with patient, family, and the medical team as necessary. u00b7 Participates in and assists staff CRNAs with clinical practice problem solving. Retention u00b7 Assumes responsibility for retention diagnosis, unit operations, unit leadership, customizing education, customizing staff jobs, enhancing communication, enhancing feedback to improve the working environment leading to higher retention rates. Leadership u00b7 Plans, organizes, and directs short and long term departmental activities in accordance with regulatory and accrediting organizations. u00b7 Hires certified registered nurse anesthetists for the department. Accepts input on candidates from the Service Chief of Anesthesiology and the Director of Surgical Services u00b7 Mentors, and supervises certified registered nurse anesthetists u00b7 Functions as a resource to CRNA staff and interdisciplinary team members. u00b7 Works collaboratively with leadership from other departments and specialties to resolve issues and improve workflow processes throughout the department and hospital. Quality Management u00b7 Supports the quality framework, which includes both clinical and service quality indicators. Creates an environment of patient care that is safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. Professional Development u00b7 Facilitates professional development and clinical growth through implementation and maintenance of unit specific and core competencies. u00b7 Promotes and facilitates educational opportunities based on an assessment of staff needs in collaboration with Education/Practice Committee u00b7 Gives individual attention and encouragement to each CRNA team member to reach individual goals. u00b7 Promotes and facilitates activities to achieve departmental goals u00b7 Monitor and evaluate individual performance through performance management system. u00b7 Maintains current knowledge of grievance and disciplinary procedures. Communicates effectively and maintains competent coaching and counseling skills during performance review and employee discipline process. Communication u00b7 Communicates clearly and effectively with direct reports, the medical staff and health care team, the immediate supervisor, and interdepartmentally. u00b7 Facilitates open communication between staff and all members of the healthcare team u00b7 Demonstrates effective oral communication skills in the following: active listening, assertiveness, providing feedback/coaching, team building, and conflict management. u00b7 Demonstrates effective written communication skills in written reports. Fiscal Accountability u00b7 Plans and forecasts the department budget by calculating FTEu2019s, planning annual budgets, interpreting payroll, accounts payable and FTE reports and projecting workload and productivity. Performs a variance analysis by identifying and interpreting budget variances. u00b7 Plans capital budget. u00b7 Plans and implements staff scheduling and assignments, position control, and attendance control procedures. Data Utilization u00b7 Assumes responsibility for accessing and utilizing appropriate data in order to monitor unit operations. Service Excellence u00b7 Demonstrates leadership accountability in the systems renewal and service excellence initiatives u00b7 Demonstrates commitment to achieving patient and staff satisfaction targets for the organization and unit(s). EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: u00b7 Masteru2019s Degree in Anesthesiology or Nursing u00b7 Three to five years of progressively more responsible leadership in a clinical setting required. u00b7 Knowledge of quality management and customer service. u00b7 Interpersonal skills to effectively lead assigned personnel and to communicate with patients and hospital personnel. u00b7 Analytical skills to evaluate procedures, techniques, assess problem/identify solutions. u00b7 Clinical knowledge to evaluate level of patient care in assigned area. u00b7 Computer skills.
