Employees on 4 crews work 4-on/4-off 12-hour Swing ShiftsScheudules require nights, weekends & holidaysSSC Incentive Pay:YesHoliday Pay:YesOverview:Contribute to Sterling Steel safely producing high quality products at the lowest cost by repairing machines & structures throughout the plant, fabricating and/or installing mechanical items when necessary and completing scheduled maintenance as to prevent future failures. Responsibilities & Duties:Inspect mechanical equipment for operating conditions and determine need for maintenance or repair. Trouble shoots and determines course of repairs requiredDismantle, repair, and assemble mechanical equipment such as gears, bearings (Babbitt and scrape bearings), shafts, cables, belts, etc. Calibrate or operate various diagnostic instruments to collect/analyze/interpret equipment operational dataDevelop and perform equipment inspection routes; collect and document findingsPerform equipment failure analysis and recommend potential corrective actionsReceive and review schedule of equipment to be diagnosed or inspectedCreate hand sketches, when necessary, of machine parts, showing shape and dimensionOperate power tools such as electric and pneumatic drills, grinders, power saws, etc. Operate oxy-acetylene torch or electric welder on a variety of construction or repair weldsOperate remote controlled cranes and mobile equipmentAnalyze and interpret data, recommend adjustments or corrections where requiredPrepare analyses and reports, and record data Read and interpret assembly drawings when necessaryDetermine the best way to make repairs to minimize interruption of productionPlan work on the job alone and with other mechanicsAdvise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effectCommunicate and coordinate with employees, supervisors and managersProvide direction to production employees when they are assisting with Mechanical tasksCarry out Supervisors’ orders in connection with operating practice, effective performance, municate with Crane Operators using standard crane signals Accurately report and record equipment history data for CMMS system Complete paper copy of work orders Maintain daily activity logs, maintenance records concerning assigned service vehicle and equipmentPerform housekeeping in areas of repair work and in shopsReport to work as scheduled Follow all related SJPsAdhere to all Policies and Work RulesComply with all SSC Safety rules; including Lock Out/Tag compliance Complete all other duties as assignedExperience/Education/Skill/Knowledge:3+ years maintenance mechanic related experience; preferably in similar heavy manufacturing settingAbility to effectively read, write, understand, and otherwise communicate in English is required for this positionWorking knowledge of welding and cutting various metalsFamiliar with uses and application of all types of fits such as press fits and running fits.Ability to read and understand blueprints Knowledge of Crane signalsKnowledge of and proficient at using alignment and inspection toolsBasic computer skillsAbility to work effectively alone or with other employees, with or without direct supervision Physical Demands:Able to work in extreme temperatures (hot & cold) while wearing required PPEWilling and able to learn, retain and apply new informationMobility to move to any area of assigned location (Rod Mill and/or Melt Shop)Strength and stamina to remain on feet for majority of 12-hour shiftsAble to use required PPE Walk up and down stairs safelyClimb ladders and on catwalks, using safety harnessSafely maneuver to positions required to inspect and repair Overhead Cranes Lift up to 50 pounds occasionallyCarry up to 25 pounds without assistanceEffective Written and Verbal communication skillsStrong basic computer skills including dexterity to type on keyboardSupply own basic tools (list available in HR)Tool/Machines/Equipment Used:Basic Hand ToolsHydraulic Power ToolsElectric & Air DrillsElectric WelderAcetylene TorchesHydraulic & Screw JacksAlignment & Inspection Tools Pipe threading toolsUltrasound gunManliftsTractors Mobile equipmentRemote CranesComputerBlueprintsWhat to Do NextNow that you’ve had a chance to learn more about us, what are you waiting for!
