Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Contact , the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance The attending anesthesiologist is charged with delivering the best possible anesthesia care to our Veteran inpatients and outpatients. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and must meet community standards. The attending anesthesiologist performs pre-operative and pre-procedural anesthetic risk assessment. Evaluation includes obtaining relevant history, performing physical exam, reviewing vital signs, lab values and all other relevant diagnostic studies prior to surgery. Appropriate notes are written in the patient's medical record. The attending anesthesiologist provides direct anesthesia services including the administration of anesthetic agents, performance of procedures including but not limited to: Peripheral IV placement, arterial catheter placement, central venous catheter placement, and placement of related invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices. Participates in the Anesthesia pre-operative assessment clinic. Supervises CRNAs in provision of anesthesia team care. Sites of responsibility include providing patient care in the Operating Room, PACU, Intensive Care Unit, Pain Clinic, IR suite, GI suite, and other locations as required. Participates in the Weekend/Holiday/Evening/Night on-call schedule in a proportion equivalent to other members of that section. Maintains ACLS and BLS certification. Responsible for providing objective information regarding risks and benefits of relevant anesthetic treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient, legal guardian or next of kin prior to administering said treatments. Performs inpatient and outpatient face-to-face consultations and e-consultations as requested. Works effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity. Complies with information security policy and procedures. Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the patient. He/she must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served within the Surgical and Anesthesia Service. Must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and diseases process and the ability to provide care based upon age and disease related factors as specified on the competence assessment checklist. Use the best available procedures and to perform them at or above national statistical levels. Participates in the education and training of nurses, technicians, medical students, residents, fellows, and medical staff as appropriate. Maintains skill in use of the VA electronic medical record Work Schedule: Part-time, 24 hours per biweekly pay period.
