Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. The VA Sioux Falls Healthcare System is recruiting for (1) part-time Orthopedic Surgeon. The Orthopedic Surgeon functions as the General Surgeon/Physician aligned with the Surgery/Specialty Care Service in inpatient and outpatient settings at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. Duties include: Diagnose and treat all of the common orthopedic surgical conditions, including surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. Participate in call schedule after hours, and will need to possess the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations. Responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Provide care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. Provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. Adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion. Ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards. Mentor, train and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required Performs other directly related duties as required.
