This role has a corresponding incentive plan based on multiple factors. incentive compensation and additional benefits can be found on our Rush benefits page ( Summary: As a key member of the Rush University System for Health executive leadership team, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will lead and elevate the philanthropic strategy for a nationally recognized academic medical center with a long-standing commitment to the community. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CDO will shape and drive a culture of philanthropy that fuels innovation across clinical care, medical education, research, and community engagement. Responsibilities: u2022 Develops a strong and growth-oriented philanthropy program that provides a critical source of revenue for Rush University System for Health, inclusive of Rush University Medical Center, Rush University, Rush Oak Park Hospital and Rush Copley Medical Center. u2022 Responsible for the strategy and direction for philanthropy with a focus on the capital campaign, including staff organization and development, volunteer leadership, communications and special events. u2022 Oversees Without Boundaries Campaign. Key campaign priorities include health equity; neuroscience; bone and joint; cancer; education and workforce development; innovation; and emerging opportunities. u2022 Builds trusted philanthropic relationships that advance Rushu2019s mission to improve health for all. u2022 As a member of the senior leadership, ensures that the campaign goals and priorities align with the strategic plan of Rush University System for Health. u2022 Works as a collaborative partner with senior leaders and faculty to translate funding priorities into marketable philanthropic objectives leading to transformational gifts. u2022 Works closely with the CEO, University President, other system leadership and board leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts at the principal and transformational gift levels. u2022 Ensures the highest level of stewardship to donors and prospects. u2022 Works with the volunteer boards and their respective leadership to build a prospect base, extend Rushu2019s reach locally and nationally and enhance fundraising outcomes. u2022 Possesses a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; experience in cultivating donors across all communities and integrating inclusive practices into fundraising. u2022 Ensures integration and collaboration within the philanthropy department and across other departments in the system. u2022 Maintains knowledge of best practices in the non-profit sector. u2022 Partners with colleagues across the organization to ensure that every staff member embraces their role in raising philanthropic support for Rush. Professional Experience and Abilities: u2022 A minimum of ten years of management responsibility for building and leading philanthropy teams, preferably in an academic medical center, research university, or large hospital/health care system. u2022 Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts from individuals at the seven- and eight-figure level, preferably within a medical and/or research enterprise. u2022 Demonstrated success as an effective leader with expertise in talent management and mentoring, strategic planning, program implementation and program accountability. u2022 An understanding of the current environment for health sciences fundraising and best practices. u2022 Successful track record working with clinical and research faculty. u2022 Proven ability to work collaboratively across a large fundraising team to increase efficiencies and foster the best possible philanthropic outcomes for Rush. u2022 Expert knowledge of donor stewardship at the highest level, ensuring that donors receive excellent and coordinated communication and care. u2022 Experience developing strategy for and leading a large comprehensive capital campaign. u2022 Superior communication skills to express, orally and in writing, the mission and fundraising goals of Rush with clarity, passion and persuasion. u2022 Has cultivated a work environment of mutual respect, collaboration and teamwork. u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree required; masteru2019s degree strongly preferred.
