Job Summary: Collaborates with the investigator team to provide researchclinical support and care. In the context of research protocols, theMedical Assistant - Research performs a wide variety of activitiesduring participant visits in a research setting. The position involvesextensive interaction with diverse populations including research studyteams, study participants, medical staff practitioners and medicalcenter personnel. The Medical Assistant - Research works under thedirection of the research study investigators, study physician and/ornurse to perform clinical activities in the context of a researchprotocol. This position will not perform activities requiring licensure.Job Description Essential Responsibilities: Performs a variety ofresearch support activities such as vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy,monitoring study participants, set up utilization and take down ofphysiologic equipment to provide quality collection, downloading andexport of data. Assists during routine procedures. Takes complete andaccurate information from participants, prioritizing and communicatinginformation to clinical and/or research staff. Performs lab tests,specimen collection and processing. Provides participants with relevantinstructions for specific tests and procedures. Schedules follow-uptests and appointments using hospital or Clinical Research Center (CRC)systems. Collaborates with RN on executing a participant's care plan.Develops and maintains competencies as delegated by manager/director.Maintains the safety of participants who have been identified at riskfor preventable injury by the implementing nursing safety interventionsor using protective devices/equipment under the supervision of the RN.Reports all participant activity to the RN in a timely manner. Escortsparticipants to ancillary service areas such as radiology and lab asneeded. Performs other support activities as requested by managers orclinical providers. Attends internal or external educational or trainingsessions as assigned. Intermittent phone and reception coverage at frontdesk. Attends and participates in staff meetings. As needed, mayfunction in areas/clinics performing job duties related to clinicalresearch studies. Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GEDrequired. Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required or must obtain BLSwithin 30 days of hire. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability tonavigate at a basic level within web-based applications. At least 5months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or researchsetting, such as: experience working as a medical assistant (MA), apatient care technician (PCT) or a clinical nursing assistant (CNA);nursing or medical student with completion of one clinical rotation.Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree in Healthcare relatedfield, MA, EMT, CNA or LNA certificate. Phlebotomy certificate. Agebased Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to providepatient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years,Middle Age: 30 - 60 . Physical Nature of the Job: Medium work: Exertingup to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of forcefrequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/ormove around through the majority of their shift.
