To accomplish this aim, studies combine the use of stable isotopes, mass spectrometry, and computational modeling to quantify in vivo metabolic fluxes in genetically-engineered mice. Under the direction of Curtis Hughey, the postdoctoral associate will work on projects focused on gaining a mechanistic understanding of the impact of liver ketogenesis and regular exercise on the pathological progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Specific duties include: Design and completions of experiments (75%) Communicate findings in written (i.e. manuscripts) or oral (i.e. presentations) formats (10%) Assist in planning and preparing research proposals for extramural funding (5%) Assist in training/supervising undergraduate and graduate students (5%) Participate in workshops and related activities for your own career development (5%) About the Department The Division of Molecular Medicine is a research-oriented division within the Department of Department of Medicine. Faculty members utilize physiological and molecular approaches to better understand and improve the health of individuals and communities. A particular focus of the division is the use of genetically-engineered mouse models to investigate human metabolic diseases. Qualifications Required Qualifications: PhD in physiology, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, engineering, or related field Demonstrated training in one or more of the following areas: metabolism and metabolic diseases, mouse models of disease, and mass spectrometry Publication record that includes at least one first-author article A strong willingness to acquire the preferred qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Documented experience with isotope tracers to assess metabolic pathways Demonstrated knowledge of MATLAB Proficiency in targeted metabolomics using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry Pay and Benefits Pay Range: Starting salary is $62,232 to $65,640 depending on education/qualifications/experience.
