JOB REQUIREMENTS: Current Employees: If you are currently employed atany of the Universities of Wisconsin, log in to Jobs Hub to applythrough the internal application process.Job Category:UniversityStaffEmployment Type:RegularJob Profile:Animal Care Technician IIJobDuties: The Primate Caretaker performs animal health checks on nonhumanprimates; performs TB testing procedures; feeds animals and administersspecial diets when necessary; performs standard animal treatmentprocedures for minor illnesses; performs blood draw procedures; tattoosanimals; cleans and sanitizes animal housing and other animal areas;handles animals including transporting, training and weighing; enteranimals health data into database, and other tasks as assigned.Key JobResponsibilities: 10% Inventories, cleans, and maintains organization ofanimal holding spaces and supplies 25% Collects samples from animals andadministers medications, injections, and treatments according toestablished protocols and procedures to be used for diagnostic tests andresearch 15% Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according toestablished schedules and specifications 5% Inspects and reportsequipment problems to ensure optimal and safe operation 10% Maintainsorganization of and updates records related to research procedures 25%Observes animal behavior, performs basic animal care, and reportsconcerns to the appropriate entities to contribute to the health andwell-being of animals and promote research Department: UWMSN OVCR WNPRC Colony Services Compensation: The starting hourly rate for theposition is $18.75 (but is negotiable based on experience andqualifications). Required Qualifications: Evidence of work-relatedexperience with animals, or knowledge of the care of animals throughcare of household pets, farm animals, or 4-H animals is preferred butnot required. Incumbent will work with our training unit and experiencedstaff to learn the tasks to be performed, including but not limited tononhuman primate handling and care techniques, utilizing standard safetypractices and precautions, and recognizing nonhuman primate behaviorconsidered symptomatic of an illness or injury.
