Orlando VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Psychiatrist. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable. Responsibilities This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Psychiatry Service Staff Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care to Veterans and qualified non-Veterans within his/her approved privileges. In addition to patient care, the Psychiatrist may have responsibilities in other areas such as education and research. Duties for this position include but are not limited to; Conducts initial psychiatric evaluations, follow-up visits, consultations, group therapy/treatment, medication management, crisis assessment and intervention to Veterans. Responsible for providing psychiatric care in an outpatient and/or inpatient setting, identifying Veterans' and qualified non-Veterans mental and directly related medical health needs and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs. Serves as the medical subject matter expert within their assigned team and may be responsible for coordinating activities of other health service personnel, resolving problems affecting Veteran care, and providing appropriate education for the Veteran and/or family members regarding the Veteran's care, condition, and its management. Responsible for: adhering to all applicable VACO, VISN and Orlando VA policies, rules and regulations and to the Orlando VAHCS Medical Staff Bylaws; Provide team-based leadership in the application of clinical practice to organizational processes and/or systems improving outcomes at the service level. Involved in teaching programs and research are responsible to provide an environment supportive of education, training and research. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-430pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs). Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
