JOB SUMMARY and#10;The extrusion machine operator is responsible for performing different tasks in running a single or several production lines. They may mix thermoplastic materials in the form of pellets or powder with colored dyes before feeding it into the extrusion machine or use premixed raw materials. They set the dials and controls of various machines to ensure that the created product is the right size, shape, color and thickness as it goes through each step in the process. Once the product is created, the machine operator measures and assesses it to make sure that it conforms to specifications and quality standards. Product is then packaged or prepared for shipment according to instructions. The extrusion machine operator advances their position and wage through building their skills and knowledge over time by learning to operate different lines, take various machines apart and reassemble, troubleshooting and repairing, and training and developing others. and#10; and#10; DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES and#10; Responsible for keeping the hopper full of compound and#10;Adjust, calibrate and test equipment to ensure proper pressure, speed, temperature and general operation and#10;Examine visually, weigh and measure components created from equipment as quality checks to ensure machines are producing according to company specifications, adjusting as need and#10;Follow and comply with all documented quality system procedures and work instructions applicable for production operations and#10;Communicate, train and work with co-workers, shift supervisors and others to take care of complications as soon as they arise and#10;Package finished product according to work instructions and#10;Grind scrap material and#10;Prepare packaging by assembling boxes and spools and#10;Assist in maintaining a safe and healthful workplace by keeping work area clean, organized and free of hazards and#10;Other duties as assigned and#10;- Available and able to work 12-hour shifts rotating weekly. 3 or 4 consecutive 12-hour day shifts 7:00 AM to 7:15 PM one week, then work 3 or 4 consecutive 12-hour night shifts 7:00 PM to 7:15 AM the next week. Then the cycle begins again. Overtime is available and not mandatory. and#10; SKILLS and#10;- Read a tape measure and familiar with the use of hand tools and hand power tools and#10;- Plastic extrusion experience preferred; other plastics experience recommended and#10;- Ability to read and write simple statements and perform arithmetic calculations with fractions and decimals and#10; and#10; EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS and#10;- High school diploma, GED (preferred but not required) and#10;- Documented US work authorization and#10;- Must be 18 years of age or older and#10;- Successful candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and pre-employment background check. and#10; PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and#10;and#149; Able to endure working in a manufacturing environment with inside excessive hot and cold temperatures, able to tolerate exposure to dust and noise for 12-hour shifts and#10;and#149; Prolonged standing on concrete floors; Frequent walking; Occasional bending and squatting and#10;and#149; Must be able to lift and/or push up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
