Position InformationPosition TitleSecondary Social Studies Praxis Adjunct Faculty for the Master in Teaching Program (Adjunct) 2026Job SummaryThe Evergreen State College seeks a 0.25 FTE, adjunct faculty member for our Master in Teaching program for winter quarter of 2026. We seek faculty with expertise in Social Studies teacher preparation and specific expertise in middle and high school educational settings. Successful applicants will teach regularly with an interdisciplinary teacher education team and work in close collaboration with MiT staff.Successful applicants should demonstrate a passion for teaching and skill in working with adult learners. This position will be primarily responsible for teaching Secondary Social Studies methods.Applicants should demonstrate interest, skill and commitment to collaboration with teaching colleagues while also working independently with shared goals. We are a coordinated studies program where faculty plan both in community and on their own so that there is continuity in the learning experiences for teacher candidates and clear developmental attention to the goals of the program. This practice also creates interdisciplinary opportunities for faculty to learn.Winter 2026 courses occur in the evenings after 4pm.Job ExpectationsMiT faculty teach as part of an interdisciplinary team, at a 15:1 student/faculty ratio. We are a coordinated studies program where faculty plan together, which involves extensive meeting time as well as solo preparation, so that there is continuity in the learning experiences for candidates.Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping teacher candidates develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaborative work. We are particularly interested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion, and draw on culturally sustaining practices.A complete list of faculty responsibilities can be found in the Collective BargainingMinimum QualificationsMaster's degree in education or an education-related fieldExperience providing educational opportunities for adult learnersMinimum of two years of teaching in K-12 classroomsPreferred QualificationsDoctoral degree with an emphasis in Social Studies teacher educationMinimum of three years' experience teaching adults. Please provide evidence of designing teacher education opportunities for adults.Demonstrated expertise in Social Studies Methods and InstructionExperience working with practicing teachers and pre-service teachers (e.g. student teaching mentor; university supervision) Experience teaching students in grades 6-12 in a public school setting Experience as an instructional coach or specialist in Social Studies Experience integrating Since Time Immemorial (STI) and Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum into teaching Demonstrated experience collaborating with other professional educators Demonstrated experience with inclusive, culturally sustaining and linguistically responsive instructional strategiesConditions of Employment As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work.
