Position involves research, design and development of software running in Linux environment to decode, encode, transport, and play media in the latest Panasonic Avionics IFE displays. Major Responsibilities Projects include low level drivers, kernel level SW development, software to handle various audio and video encoding and container formats and streams. Will have specific technical project or product responsibility. As a Software Engineer you will u2022 Plan, design, implement and modify software applications from functional and system design specifications. u2022 Code, integrate, test, debug, and refine core software in C/C++ in Linux and Android u2022 Work with various media encoding and media container and transport mechanisms to create the best IFE experience for the passenger. u2022 Develop software tools and subsystems to support software development, test, and reuse, and manage their implementation. u2022 Enhance software to reduce operating time or improve efficiency and robustness. u2022 Review, evaluate, and analyze design interfaces. u2022 Prepare, review, and evaluate test plans and procedures. u2022 Assist in definition, analysis, and allocation of requirements. u2022 Support system test programs and analyze system testing results. u2022 Maintain the developed software efficiently through familiarity with software lifecycles. u2022 Document designs in engineering documents including functional block diagrams and data/logic flow charts. The salary or hourly wage range of $116,000 u2013 $194,000 is just one component of Panasonicu2019s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individualu2019s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements. Qualifications: What we require from you u2022 Proficient in C/familiarity with C++ programming in Linux, including real time multi-threaded embedded software development u2022 Network programming experience including TCP/UDP/IP u2022 Experience with various media technologies such as MPEG1/2/4, H.264.265, AAC, AC3, and various containers and transport mechanisms such as MPEG2-TS, MOV, AVI, RTP, RTSP, HLS, DASH u2022 Experience with media subsystems in Linux such as V4L, ALSA, openGL, directFB u2022 Experience with audio/video DRM systems u2022 Experience with AOSP media framework and audio/video rendering pipelines is a plus u2022 Experience with audio/video processing such as resampling, format conversion and enhancement is also a plus u2022 Experience with creating product solutions that are robust and scalable. u2022 Solid knowledge of embedded software development concepts u2022 Proficient with the Linux environment and Open-Source software development tools. u2022 Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and make efficient use of given resources such as system lab time and downstream process owners and tasks. u2022 Use expertise, experience, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. u2022 Proficient with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Software Engineering field. u2022 Develop solutions to clearly defined problems of moderate to diverse scope. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS + Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. + Advanced degree is preferred. + 10-15 years' of related experience. + 8+ years' of embedded software development experience. + 8+ years' of current hands on development experience with one of the following: C, PHP and/or Shell + Scripting experience. Very high technical competence with a track record of strong coding. + IFE System Development experience is a plus. KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS + Advanced C programming experience in Linux environment including TCP/IP network programming. + PHP, Shell Scripting, Unix/Linux, MySQL, Algorithm Development, Data Manipulation, Data Aggregating/Processing. + Excellent SQL, MySQL or related database language skills. + Strong experience in Linux and/or Unix environments. + Strong understanding of working with data such as data manipulation, data aggregation, data processing, or related. + Familiarity with network security methodologies a plus. Prior experience with multimedia application development including streaming audio/video servers and clients highly desirable. + Ability to resolve complex problems quickly and efficiently. IFE development involves many system level issues including real time, performance and reliability requiring understanding of distributed processors in an embedded system environment. Many problems are multi-dimensional requiring non-traditional solutions to fit within the constraints of an embedded system providing highest value to the customer and end user to bring entertainment in an aircraft. + Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with user-centered, iterative design and development cycles. + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and make efficient use of given resources such as system lab time and down stream process owners and tasks. + Demonstrated ability to lead multi-function teams to achieve positive results and perform as a technical expert and a source of information. + Provide leadership and/or technical guidance to other engineers. + Highly proficient in project planning while addressing external/internal dependencies across multiple functions. + Proven ability to extensively modify existing processes, procedures or methods to develop appropriate solutions. + Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures. + Resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. + Works on problems of diverse to complex scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of variable factors. + Demonstrable experience providing identifiable technical contributions to the success of a product or project. + Proven ability to develop technical approach or design, resource, allocation or time schedule on projects. + Ability to effectively interact with senior internal and external personnel. + Demonstrated engineering communication expertise including concise written and verbal skills is a must. + Familiarity with a variety of discipline field concepts, practices and procedures.
