The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinatesservices that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents.Driven by the needs of residents, DHSP's extensive services andprograms touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to seniorcitizens, from school-aged children to homeless families, fromnon-profit organizations to local employers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES: The Group Leader position is directly responsible, inpartnership with the Program Director, for a small cohort ofPreteen/Middle School members between the ages of 9-13, including teambuilding, curricular development, behavior management, improvingperformance, and maintaining culture consistent with Cambridge YouthProgram's values. The Group Leader will work with the Program Directorand Youth Center Director to lead a diverse group of pre-teens, andmiddle schoolers through programmed activities, service projects, civicengagement, and leadership development. The overall goals for the GroupLeader are to provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support totheir cohort (small group) and families throughout their engagement atour centers. Specifically, the Group Leader will: Manage cohortactivities and behaviors during center activities inside and outside ofthe building. Support Youth Worker's daily activities. Assist the LeadYouth Workers and Program Director to oversee the implementation ofpolicies and procedures at the Youth Center as they relate to youthmembers in our programs. Inform the Program Director of specific YouthCenter members, needs or concerns that are brought to their attention.Plan, design, organize, and implement age-appropriate Youth Centerprograms and activities for cohort and program, for Pre-Teens and MiddleSchoolers between the ages of 9-13. Provide a safe, structured, andstimulating environment for Youth Center members and volunteers. Attendand participate fully in staff meetings, planning sessions, othermeetings, staff development, and training programs and activities asdirected. Group Leaders will conduct regular cohort meetings. Be apositive role model and develop meaningful relationships with YouthCenter members. MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS: Experience and Education: Two years? experience workingwith youth in an academic, recreational, or athletic setting. HSDiploma/GED required; some post-secondary education preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Group management skills andfacilitation skills. Conflict resolution and an understanding ofrestorative justice. Understanding of positive youth development.Effective communication skills with youth and adults. Interest andability to engage and support families. Ability to create and supportcurricular/activity design and implementation.
